How can you tell if you sucked some water into your motor?

I was coming home from work while it was raining really bad outside. I have a nismo cold air intake so i wasn't speeding at all because I was affraid to suck water into my motor (even with the bypass valve). Half way home my car starts spottering and it wouldn't go pass 2000 RPM. I let it run for a while when I got home but it still wont let me go pass 2000 RPM. What does that mean?

Have you turned it off, restarted and tried again?

Are you showin a CEL? If so, get a code reader and pull the code.

When the car goes into safe mode it limits you to 2000rpm. I had the Nismo intake for a couple of years and never had problems, including driving through 2 tropical storms.

I think it's a good idea to get it checked. It sounds like water did get in there and possibly bent a piston.

u might have water in ur system... I was cleaning out my OEM filter once and it was wet, I let it dry out and installed it in the car again while it was a little bit damp and the car would not go over 2000 rpm either.

I let it dry out a little bit more and it worked fine... is your filter soaked?

Any liquid in the intake sucks....!

HAHA It's not the pistons that bend it's the rods. Liquids don't compress so
when the piston compresses the rod takes the hit. I unfortunately have had
this experience....Ouch! (not with Nissan products)

Well, I think it was just on safe mode because I let it dry and now is just fine. Thank you all for your advise.

My filter was very much soaked. i pull the bottom part of the intake and clean the filter out and put it back in and now is just as it was before.

MAFS got wet, used to happen on my I30 when it would rain out. It also has a CAI with a bypass. it only takes a little bit of moisture to mess with the sensor.

YOur engine will stop working...the VQ motor will only be able to take in a table spoon of water before it will/may hydrolock.
