Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

When I saw this, I ran out to my car to take a look. Oddly, my pipe goes straight down. There is about 3/4" between the tube and the pipe. I know I payed attention to this when I installed the tube, but thank god you guys were kewl enough to share this with everyone. BTW, as far as the insulation foam, I thought of doing that, but I hesiated becauase I was unsure if that foam was susceptable fire. I normally see that foam being used in area where there is not a lot of concentrated high heat. Thoughts?

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I have the Stillen and the 350z tube. There is a "little" rub between the rubber lip of the flexible duct and the a/c tube. I would call it touching, and not rubbing... but then I am not in court now am I? !?

here's a shot:

I would think that the rubber lip of the duct would wear away before the metal A/C tube. I'll keep an eye on it, but I have close to 6k miles on the car with these two mods without ANY wear.

Cheers, ted

Man, you need to fix that ASAP...its aluminum and just because its only "touching" when u look at it, imagine while ur driving.

Buy some Foam Pipe Insulation (under $2) and wrap it up. then im gonna put the plastic civer over that so the foam doesnt rip and get warn away. All in all...for under $5 you can be worry free...or be paying $800 in 2months.

Ted,
Try using a zip tie to pull it further from the z tube. There's a bracket nearby perfect for this. Get a flashlight and examine it closely. Mine was barely touching plastic and the metal was scractched up pretty good.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I noticed this when I installed my Pop-Charger. I just double checked mine. It's more than 1/4" away from the AC tube.

My simple solution at the time I installed the P-C was to just rotate the MAF tube about 1/2" from alignment in relation to the Z-Tube.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

they stretchy part of the Ztube bounces a lot...1/4" is not good enough for me...that said...i wish i had 1/4"

I would go jiggle the MAF box and see if it can reach the A/C line...or check the A/C line for scratches....if either then i would "Wrap it Up"
We obviously went against abstonance...lets just be safe fellas!

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

Actually, even if I pull HARD on it, the rigidity of the bracket on the Pop-Charger won't let me budge it at all towards the AC tube! Not sure about on the stock or other intakes.

BTW, my MAF housing is just touching the top of the strut tower in this position, so I have a small piece of 3M Clear bra material to protect the paint from rubbing.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

It's a pressure line, so patching the hole may not be a good solution. Not sure how well it will hold, especially in the long run. Not sure though.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

Does this issue also pertain to superchargers?

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

My god, I just took a look at it and well, it sort of melted and deformed!! I dont see a hole or anything but its definitely messed up. Its hard to explain but the top part of the Injen near the throttle body where the plug goes in (black middle part) going into the plenum theres a square part, and one of the squared edges is on it and the ac line contoured to it and it looks like it melted and formed to it my god... Man, im gonna have to take pics and then maybe I can resolve this. Ill take some pics and post em in about an hour. iLLG

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

it pertains to ANYTHING touching your A/C line or close enough to bounce and hit it while driving...your intake is the only thing near it stock but i have no clue what and where is added for a supercharger...just check out the A/C line and see if u got anything touching it.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

Good catch!

While it didn't appear that I had the problem, I did loosen the air inlet system's mounting bolts, moved the entire assembly as far as possible to the passinger side and retightened the bolts. I also split a piece of small diameter rubber hose and slid it into position for insurance.

Thanks again for the valuable information.
