Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I'm no expert here, but I don't think you can patch the ac line...especially if its aluminum. The lines are usually under either high or low pressure depending on what side of the compressor its running........a weld shop may be able to weld it if they use argon gas or something similar for welding aluminum...

Otherwise, best bet is to have it replaced....but before you drive yourself nuts....make sure that is the problem and not something else.........

Gr8t ur rite, i just called up infiniti parts at smithtown dealer in NY and explained and he said the part is $58.32. Now I am relieved, but then he said it could be dried out if i dont get it done soon then ill need a new kompressor and everything i was like UMM lol. Anyway ill order the new line and get it put in I guess, then just wrap it up so it wont happen again. iLLG

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I checked my Nismo CAI, and the aluminum adapter edge was slightly touching that very line. There's a bit more than a scratch in the line; no leak yet but I bet it would have soon. I moved the line a bit for now, and I'll look into a permanent fix.

You probably need to recharge the AC system after replacing that line, that's why it's such an expensive repair.

Good get.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

OK, here's the original link that I could find that addressed this issue. It dates back to last month and was posted on Fresh Alloy.CAI kills A/C Line. It tells you how much the line and installation really cost (BTW it's not $800).

I checked my setup today and I saw that I have (had) the Z-Tube touching the A/C line. I re-bent the bar on the Z-Tube, no luck. I rotated the Z-Tube, no luck. I rotated the JWT Pop charger, no luck. I eventually loosened the bolt (with the black washer beneath it) that attaches the Z-Tube bracket to the plenum and slid the bracket as far away from the A/C line as possible. I gained about .125-.250" of clearance between the Z-Tube and the A/C line after adjusting this bracket. This is not enough clearance for me to feel comfortable and I'll attempt to make a more permanent fix tomorrow (day off yippiee!). Maybe a dremel tool and a few minutes opening up the hole on the black aluminum bracket and I "might" have all of the clearance that I'll ever need.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I checked mine when I got home from work. I have the Z-tube
coupled to the Stillen HFAB. There is a bunch of room
between the A/C line and the MAF tube. The Stillen couple
to the MAF tube prevents it from getting near the A/C line.
I cannot even push on the MAF tube to make it go closer
to the A/C line. It looks like the Stillen box is really well
designed. There is no way any part of the intake, stock or
Z tube, can come close to the A/C line. Whew! I knew I
spent $260 for a good product.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

Guess it varies from car to car....

I did the "rotate the JWT" fix as posted earlier with the pics
and between that and bending the mounting bar some I got about 1/8 inch clearance...it was touching very slightly though when I checked it out....

Tested my A/C and all is well....

Great catch though.....!!

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

does the a/c line still rub if you have a z-tube with the stock air box?

Neither rubs if it's installed right and you know what to look for. If you have to ask, you better check!!

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I just checked mine out and i only have the z-tube. I saw there were a couple scratches on the A/C line, but the distance between the line and the z-tube was a good 3/4", maybe i hit a bump or something. Its been hot here anyways, so i rapped the whole A/c line in insallation, so now i can have super cold A/C, and ill have no worries when i put my Stillen CAB in! I just wrapped the whole pipe in a bunch of different sections with some 5/8'' ID insalation, and in the gap between the A/C line and the z-tube i squeezed a piece in that i glued down around the sides. Ill check on it in a few days to see how its holding up!

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

This happened to me .. i have the INJEN CAI and the MAF bolts rubbed againts the a/c line and i did not know that.. and so i tried using my a.c about 2 weeks ago and i was wondering why hot air was coming in so i took in to the dealership and they found the problem.. they wanted to charge me $700 to fix the line because they had to go through the firewall .. but i was like heck no ... cause i did not have the money because i am a student and i didnt want my parents to know that my aftermarket product avoided the warrenty so i took it to my uncles and he fixed just welded a piece here is couple pictures..
