Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I have the ztube with the Stillen Hi Flo. Two things the clearance is fine on mine at least an inch, also I tested the lateral movement of the Ztube, hardly any movement there. Lastly, my dealer performed the install so if it ever did rub - their dealing with it.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

ACK! Just checked mine and I have the same problem. Have a pic here, the dark area is how far down this has scraped into the metal! My guess is that is quite far down to the point that this line HAS to be replaced before it blows??? The MAF was rubbing on it (and the MAF screw shows wear from rubbing). I am also guessing that putting the stock airbox back on the car and taking it in won't do any good either since the MAF shows wear....

I took my car in for the 15000 service. Popped my hood later and the service techs adjusted the ztube for me. I have a healthy, at least 1/4 in. clearance now. I wonder what they did. I have the JWT.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

the pic I posted is pretty bad, but I have the same EXACT type of hole that you do. Thing is, the AC is not affected so far; I still have cold air just like it was on Day 1. I am just worried about the inner diameter of that tube and with that much aluminum missing, I am guessing this will eventually blow out?

They probably loosened the Z tube where it connects to the manifold, repositioned it a little angled to the left, then re-tightened. Even a little bit of adjustment at the manifold makes a big diff at MAF.

Hooby

not every single Ztube is exactly the same millimeter per millimeter....as you can see some people were rubbing, some were not, some had 1/4" of room, some 1/8", some less, some have the hole.....

Obviously it varies from car to car.....so i dont think anyone did it "wrong" per say as the intake is working but just needs minor adjustments.

and dude trust me you dont have "tons" of room , you got about 1/4" max.......
and if you only have a Z-Tube this really doesnt apply to you...

Its for those with aftermarket intake systems...(ie...Injen, JWT/Z-tube combo, etc)

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

Mine finally went through and de-pressurized. It happened at a good time. We had a meet yesterday and I popped the hood to show Dan and it started pissing green stuff for about 30-45 minutes. We also go to check out another coupe with the Nismo CAI (bunnone) and he had at least 3/4" space because of the way he installed his MAF housing. His was pointed almost straight up, 1 o'clock when facing the engine. He pointed out that it had dug into the hoodliner a little but I'd rather have that instead of the problem I have now.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I have the Injen CAI on my sedan and I checked all my A/C lines. No rubbing anywhere. Thanks for the heads-up though. Great info.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I just put my my jwt in yesterday it seemed that no matter what i did still had rubbing. I finally managed to get some clearence after bending the bracket a bit and I used some washers to lift the z tube a bit where it connects to the plenum. Thanks for all the info everyone.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

Here is another heads up.

Some have MAF screw rubbing. Best to turn the tube a bit.

Others have the (MAF to ztube) clamp rubbing. Please don't use that nasty wire clap. Reuse one of the flat SS clamps. It may buy some people some more room.

And for goodness sakes, run the MAF wires UNDER the MAF tube.

Nice polish job will!

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

If you turn it so the sensor is up and the square flange isn't rubbing you have to run the wires over the top.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I am such an A##hole...this thread has been going for a while and I just never got around to opening the hood.
Well yesterday after the wash and polish I popped it to clean the engine nad then I remembered this thread.
I have a Nismo CAI and the #@$ AC Line was touching with a big chunk of the line worn away. "WTF!!!!"....I said.....my 11 year old daughter happen to be passing by...so I have cough up a $1 for using bad language...from the looks of the line I think about another few weeks and I would have a hole.....I couldn't reposition the CAI, but managed to pull back the AC Line with a zip tie and then I wrapped the line with tape...I hope this is enough, but just in case I am going to wrap it with insulation and inspect weekly.
Much respect to "dabomb" for bringing this to our attention.

You get my award for post of the month

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

You can rotate your MAF housing so the maf sensor is at the 1 o'clock position and the wires are running over the top. This will give you at least 3/4" clearance.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP

I have the Injen CAI and during install I installed the MAF sensor at the 10 o'clock position and it's fine. The only thing is that it's a few milimeters from the plenum which can get kinda hot. But for about 4 months no problem.
