AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP
Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP
I taped mine with good old ductape and just bent the ac tube a little its fine now if you move the MAF around you end up having the bolts sit against ur wheel well and you're going to scratch that up or get vibrations i tryed it.
Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP
I fixed mine by wrapping a 1 inch long piece of thin rubber hose (like the kind the use for air compressors) around the ac line. Then I held it together with the smallest clamp I could find at Lowes. The screw of the clamp is an added bonus that prevents the Z tube from even touching the hose that covers the AC line.
Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP
maybe this has to do with the date that the intake is made OR the way the installation is done. becuase i just installed mine last week and i checked after the installation. There is about half an inch space between.
Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP
I have a question to all of you guys who used a plastic insulator to wrap around the A/C line:
If the intake rubbed a hole in a metal pipe, what makes you think some plastic insulator withstand the rubbing?
I'm not trying to be sarcastic in anyway, just curious.
I think people with Z-Tube should be less concerned. I think this problem applies more to people with metal intakes such as Injen. I have the Z-Tube/JWT combo, and my tube was actually the one that was suffering the damage caused by the A/C line...

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP
Common sense. The A/C line is a very, very thin aluminum. Not very resistant to rubbing. If you wrap the A/C line like a did inside a very thick and hard rubber hose (like the one used for fuel lines), you can tell there is no way the intake tube will wear it out.
Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP
In my setup, I was unable to screw the heatshield bracket to where it was supposed to go so naturally the z-tube shifts to the left away from the A/C line. I've got about an inch and it's rock solid. Guess I got lucky. My suggestion for others would be to remove the heat shield bracket (NOT THE HEAT SHIELD ITSELF) and pull the tube to the left. That gives ample clearance.

I did something similar.
What I did was unscrew the metal fastner from the Ztube, remove it completely from the Ztube, then turn the metal fastner around so that the screw-side goes on the left of the tube, close to the engine oil dipstick. I also bought $1 worth of rubber hose and just clamped it on the A/C line just in case.
EVERYONE should perform the first part of what i typed.
The hose by itself was still rubbing initially (it had a huge dent into the rubber after only 1 day) so that is why i had the metal fastner swapped to the left, instead of its stock position to the right.

Actually you should remove that cheapo clamp altogether and use a worm type clamp like at the front end of the ztube.
There should be a clamp left over, doesn't make sense to use that screw/wire clamp.

Here's my latest and hopefully final update on my repairs.
I ordered the HP line because mine was worn through. $70. Had it installed last week for about $189 labor charge. While the mechanic was vacuuming out the system to recharge he noticed the LP side leaking. Ordered that one for $150 and another $189 (1.9 hours) labor charge. Add about $50 for the recharge and my total was around $650.
For those that have checked their HP side look underneath your intake at the LP side. The larger diameter hose, not pipe, might be touching and will also get damaged.
On a totally seperate note the G35Driver.com business cards and stickers will cost $100 now.

Re: AFTERMARKET INTAKE OWNERS---READ ASAP
My case is that a/c pipe is dented by the edge of the Ztube, not by the wire clamp, so changing the clamp will not work for me.
what I did is adjust the pop-charger mounting angle clock-wise (facing the car), this makes mounting screw closer to the mounting point on car, so the filter can be pushed 1/2" away from a/c tube with a extra bolt padded under the mounting screw on car's side. MAF turned to the right to touch the body, but at lease better than intake pipe rubbing the a/c tube, I also used some leftover plaster hose to wrap the a/c tube for extra protection.
Thank you guys for finding the problem, I can see potential big money to spent to fix a/c if I did not find this thread.
I love internet.

Not sure why you guys are having so much problems, I have a min. of 1/2" between the Z tube and the AC line. And I have Stillens High-Flow Intake on.
