Not normal. Take it to the dealer, start an oil consumption test. Use the search button above too, there are plenty of threads about this.

Until it is PROVEN that the engine is defective by consumming oil your warranty requires that you maintain oil level full.

Running engine low of oil [even 1 quart] has damaged your crank and rod bearings. Your negligence in dealing with oil consumption has now created other problems.

Hopefully you have written legal proof that oil changes were done on time and mileage. Not just purchase receipts for oil/filters.

Oil consumption issue, take it back to the dealer, if you're under warranty and this is the case you'll get a new motor. Good luck

Your choice between rebuilding engine [rings and bearings] or buying a replacement engine OR buying oil by the case and adding a quart every 1,000 miles or less until the cats clog from all the oil.

Assuming you don't just have leaks?

Well, some manufacturers state that burning 1 quart per 1000 miles (1600 km) is within "acceptable" limits, cost of rebuilding a motor vs cost of oil/catalytic converter, etc. Since 5000 KM = 3125 Miles, you're pretty close to that 1 quart/1000 mile limit.

However, for me anything more than 1/2 qt of oil burned every 3000 miles is NOT acceptable. Between my parents cars (9 cars in 30 years) and my cars (7 cars in 24 years), no car we've owned has ever burned more than 1/2 quart every 5000 miles.

I'd complain loudly.

Changing oil every 5k is not negligence. With modern oils that is fully acceptable. These cars have known excessive consumption. Do you work for infiniti?

Why post wrong information? If the engine is CONSUMING OIL he is not obligated to make sure he keeps it topped off everyday. He is entitled to a new engine!! - that is if he is under warranty.

If you haven't already, take it to the dealer. They will do an oil consumption test and determine if you're in need of a new motor.
