Re: New Mods!!!

SC8: Don't go away mad - you just made a mistake that you'll never make again, we all have in one area or another (hey - that's my wife you're talkin' about!). This is really a great website, but some of us have been into cars, and into THIS car, for so long that we assume everyone else has the basics down, and that's not true (of course). Hope you hang around and learn more about your "G" - at some point, you'll enlighten the rest of us with your own area of knowledge. Don't lose your enthusiasm - you mean well, and we need you on our team.

Gurgen: You have been an invaluable source of information to all of us considering mods - and you have fully admitted the areas in which your own knowledge is lacking, too (i.e. stereo systems, etc.). I, for one, like your "tell it like it is" approach, and you can't know how many of us have been either prevented from blowing our $ on a useless or barely noticeable mod, or learned what we'd done wrong before we bragged about it (sorry, SC8) because of your willingness to share your knowledge and experiences. Just go easy on the newbie's, be gentle with us dummies, my friend - and we'll respect you even more as we begin to "come into the light" of modding.

Ximer: Sorry Gurgen rubbed you the wrong way - have always appreciated your comments and insight as well.

Everybody: This website is head and shoulders above everything out there - not just for our FM platform cars, but ALL cars! This thread, and the flaming in it, is very typical of what you see on average in other sites, everybody trying to show off what they know in a malicious, "take THAT" kind of attitude (hell, the Acura TL forum members can't mount any good argument against the "G" because they are too busy fighting amongst themselves, in addition to the fact that their car is inferior - I used to go to small claims court for mindless entertainment, now I just drop in on the TL forums and laugh my a** off). Let's keep our heads, here, and act like the intelligent people we are. SC8 doesn't have to prove his intellect to me, unless he was GIVEN his "G", because he displayed lots of smarts just by buying it.

Also, keep in mind that people have to start somewhere, and maybe SC8 (and many like him/her) was never even interested in performance cars and modding until they bought the "G" - a car like this will awaken your senses and cause you to go places you've never been before (literally as well as figuratively).

That's IMHO, of course - what's yours?

Re: New Mods!!!

dbarnes,

thanks very much for your comments, you are right, I kinda went ape, LOL. What I did say WAS kinda mean spirited, even though it may have been technically correct. I fell into the whirpool, and it got the better of me. Those of you who have PMed me (at least 10-12 people) after my T/C install, as well as after the first Sedan Stillen Exhaust install, and after my many dyno posts, you know that I have taken my time to explain what the benefits are and how the mods work. I have also minded meeting up with poeple in my area that wanted to hear the exhaust/see the mods in person. Most people that I have helped were newbies, but intermediate-advanced modders as well. The way I responded here was not in the usual helpful spirit, this was unlike me. SC8, sorry about that! It's just that when people say that they are throwing on twin-turbos, I automatically do not think that they are newbies, and this contributed to the tone of my response. In the future, it is helpful for a lot of people that you identify yourself as a newbie, that way we know how to approach the problem. Again, sorry.

Gurgen

Re: New Mods!!!

SC8: I agree that installing headers will take longer than 1 hour, for the average person. Unless you do a particular mod often, it should take you more like 2-3 hours to install headers, being cautious and careful as you go, double-checking bolts, connections, gaskets, etc. That's if your just a normal person, like me, who is extra cautious and wants to avoid scratches or other cosmetic damage as well. Those of us who are used to wielding wrenches often, will take less time, partially because they are more confident in thei own abilities/knowledge.

Re: New Mods!!!

Doug says it takes them almost all day to install the Crawford headers and they've done a ton of them and have it down to an art.

Just read a mag article that claimed a half a day or so to do the DC headers.

I don't think headers are anywhere close to a DIY, not even the little shorties. Unless you have a lift and professional tools handy...with a helper.

Re: New Mods!!!

There you have it - Doug knows! Don't know Doug myself (newbie), but I can tell by the various references to him in many different posts that he works on these cars daily, and knows what he's doing, so that solves the header installation time estimate for me.

Thanks, Catatafish !

Re: New Mods!!!

Yeah, but I've read that Crawford headers are SOOOOO long that Doug has to lift the engine off of the mounts just to fit the darn headers in there. Smaller headers might squeeze in w/o this much trouble, thus taking 2-3 hours to install.

Re: New Mods!!!

SC8, dbarnes, et al. ... are right... There is no way in hell you can install headers i 1 hour. It takes 3-6 hours to do both sides. This is NOT a 4-banger FWD (transverse engine) honda/acura/toyota, where the headers are right there in the front of the engine and accessible from the front
