ECU resets

hey guys!! i've had my G for about a year 1/2 now and i regularly visit the site. first off, you all are hilarious!!

second, i've been reading the DIY on the ecu resets, and there seems to be a few of them. is there one that works particulary better than another? I am also assuming that by doing this i am going to lose some gas milage...will this be a noticable amount? any other changes i will notice?

Re: ECU resets

Won't change your gase mileage. Will change your shift points. May change the long term (50 miles or less) fuel maps the ECU goes to.

Use the pedal method with a stop watch, you should be able to do it on your first try with a second hand.

Draw your own conclusion and report back to us. I was a naysayer, but I'm beginning to reconsider after learning more about how the maps in the ECU operate. Got a great lesson from gurgen that started swaying me. But, do one and see for yourself and let us know what your perceptions are.

Take before and after measurements of anything you can think of.

Re: ECU resets

earlier this month, read the whole post...

3 methods:
pedal w/ timing
12 hour
+/- touch

i hope someone can clear this up because some say it resets the whole ecu while others say it only clears the memory on the pedal...

i got out of that thread it's easiest to reset the ecu if you disconnect the + / - from the battery and have the two touch for 5+ seconds.

is this the actual / only way to reset the whole ecu? or does the pedal work for the whole ecu as well?

Re: ECU resets

The pedal works. There are several resets. The one that resets everything is the 3 second, 5 pump, 7 second, 10 second 10 second thing. And with this method you won't have to reset your radio stations.

Re: ECU resets

I have done all three resets myself and the one that has been the most effective was the pedal timing procedure. The other two just leave my car very sluggish and make it worse or the same. I don't understand this and people are using the other two methods with claims of success? I did the +/- about 3 times in a week or so. The car would feel super sluggish and then start to get better at about 75 miles and then at 100 miles a little better yet. Seems to me that it is just going through it's normal operation of adjusting itself every 100 miles rather than starting fresh with an ecu that has lost all of it's data. I am absolutely stumped why anyone would use the other procedures. I did the pedal procedure last night after doing the other procedures of resetting the ecu and it was rough at first and sluggish but even the sluggishness that I had this morning was better then I had before. Then after about 16 miles or so it was starting to really kick in which was what I had expected. If those other procedures don't really work then why are they being posted in the FAQ & DIY forum?? I was using them and I'm upset because I was doing the pedal method the first time which is correct and all of this time I haven't been to satisfied with my car. Just my $.02 I guess. Have a good day.

Re: ECU resets

There are several things in the DIY forum that are not the best thing to do in my opinion. Remember they are not posted by actual Nissan engineers or techs, rather mere mortals. Buyer beware.

Re: ECU resets

yes, the resets work. gets back that cheetah like sprintyness that goes away after awhile, and helps to reset your idle point after installing some parts. i just got my K&N and my idle is a bit higher, will be doing the resets later on this week.
