engine replacement issues.. I NEED HELP!!!
im in tampa fl and just took my car into lokey infiniti.. (my car has been eating oil like crazy) they said i had to start an oil consumption test and bring it in every 1500 miles.. cool! problem... they want the receipts for all the oil changes because the first owner didnt bring it in.. ever..
when i bought the car i did a complete maintenance check and changed the oil, oil filter and intake filter just to be safe. i used RP on first oil change.. then lucas oil on second.. mobil 1 filter both times.. and i didnt keep the receipts either time..
the dealership said cuz i have no receipts im screwed.. when the oil consumption test is done and they determine that the engine is bad.. they will have to tear the engine down.. if the find sludge then the warrenty is screwed and i pay for everything!!!! WTF??
is this my reality or are they trying to fvck me over?
I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!

There is a maintance booklet that comes with the car. The dealer fills it out and stamps it everytime it comes in for it's regular maintance.
Now, what if you are someone on here; an obvious car enthusiast and you'd rather buy your own oil, filter, etc., and get under your car to change the oil? Well... then you need a record. Especially when someone is going to try and shell out a couple grand on an engine for you in this dwindling economy.
I'd be in the same boat as you. I've changed my own oil since 6,000 miles (had it changed 3 times during that period at the dealer)... after that, my car has no records at all 25,000 miles later and some 4.5 years later.... I could have done anything to the car in that time- including not changing the oil for a year.
So yes... sadly, this is your reality. You should have kept the receipts. The only thing you can try to do is go to where it was you bought the oil from and see if they can find your credit card number or something and print some tickets out for you. Just tell them your situation. Any records they have to help you can't hurt. If you can't do that... hope for the best.
I'll pray for you, lol. Hopefully you won't need it.

even though i took care of the car.. is it possible that there is sludge? would that have been cleared up with the high quality oil i used?
ive been told that they wouldnt do an oil consumption test if there was evidence of sludge.. is this true? i know we have nissan and infiniti techs on here.. whats the truth?

The Nissan warranty requires that every owner change oil every 180 days and or 7499.9 miles. Documented Legal proof of change is required, not just a retail sales receipt for purchase of oil and filter, but a work order with VIN, date, mileage, company letterhead, and a signature.
Every week some kid/adult comes in with a stack of Walmart receipts trying to fool Nissan into believing the oil was changed.
Why they offered you the tear down lie detector test............if you are telling the truth the engine will be clean inside.
People lie to save their asses and substitute other cars receipts with visable changes........many times it is laughable bringing mommy into to swear they observed the work...........or a fake priest calls up.
As to previous owner whose fault is buying a car without mainteance proofs?
Dealerships hate serious warranty work because Nissan gets a significant discount on hours vs customer paid. Long blocks are treated at a discount also so parts profit is not customer paid rate. Technican who do just warranty work will starve and family go hungry compared to those who do customer paid or a decent mix.
Important to understand how warranty works and how to do your part to make it a smooth experience.
Remember dealerships are independent business whose largest paying customer is Nissan Warranty.
Dealerships are protected from Nissan abuse by your states franchise laws which they wrote........all Nissan can do is order audits of warranty work and send them extra ugly colored cars to sell.
Some money is better than no money but many times the work is accepted begrudgingly.

+1, time for a built longblock motor from http://www.importpartspro.com/vqloblpa.html
there's no way the dealer is going to warranty it.

labour charges for mechanical work at dealers is usually dictated by a magical black book. this book almost always grossly over-estimates the time needed to do the work (i.e. 0.8 hrs for an oil change, 0.5 hrs to replace wipers,...). this means that in an 8 hour shift a tech can charge much more than 8 hrs. at a shop i worked at as a kid the mechanics told me that a normal day saw at least a 50% time markup, usually much more.
i understand that dealers have considerable overhead to cover, but that is accounted for in the hourly chargeout rate ($120/hr in Vancouver). i have always disagreed with overcharging clients solely based on what a book says should be the labour. often times i will observe the work as it is done to ensure i pay for only what time was spent doing the work, although i rarely take my car to a dealer for regular maintenance.
i work in an engineering firm that provides consulting services to industrial clients. we procure work by providing a labour estimate based on the agreed upon scope. the client pays us on an hourly rate during the work. if we do not use all the hours originally estimated then the client does not pay for those unused hours. makes sense, right?

If it were me I wouldn't give a hell about the tear down because I changed my own oil with full synthetic every 3k. Theres no way there could be sludge in there. I'd be like go for it...

thats just it.. i dont know how the 1st owner treated it.. i treat it great.. best oils and filters i can find.. if there was sludge/minor wear damage do you think 2 royal purple oil and mobile1 filter changes and the last oil change having lucas oil and mobil1 filter will have helped remove possible sludge and damage?
