Looking to get some cams next. Something I've been tossing around since last September after talking with UpRev about building the car up.
First of all, I am going to be putting a Vortech V3 on. Will the cams I get need to be decided AFTER the Vortech is on and tuned? Or will it make any difference what cams I get whether it's N/A or SC'ed?
Secondly, what brands did you guys go with. Cosworth is my first choice but Tomei makes a wide variety as well with slightly higher Duration than Cosworth, but there's also JWT, Crawford, etc.
Let me know your experiences and what you saw out of your cams.

Quality parts that are dyno proven. 2 names that are well known in the nissan community and preferred over others. Cosworth and Nismo products have some of the best warranties out there. Why not cosworth or nismo?Originally Posted by OCG35

DO NOT waste you money and time with cams if you're going with forced induction. 9 out of 10 times, adding NA cams to a forced induced motor will result in less power. Forced induced cars tend to run much better with the OEM cams. If you're still dying to add cams, then you'll need to add cams specifically made for forced induction and I can't say I've ever seen FI cams available for the VQ series.

Kelford and GTM both have specific FI cam grinds, there may be more as I'm doing research on cams myself right now.
I can't remember seeing any specific information or someone stating that they lost power when upgrading cams after the proper retune. I think every car that I compared with a similar setup the cammed cars made similar power at lower boost, or more power at the same boost. Theory may follow what you are suggesting, but I think different results have been found in practice, especially with control over cam phasing.
OP, here is a link to a supercharger specific cam test on my350.

I'm happy with the JWT cams I have... there are many, many viable choices... to make a post that state "Cosworth or Nismo period" implies no other choice is worthwhile… if that’s not what you meant, then you just don’t state yourself clearly… if that is what you meant, then you are completely clueless.Originally Posted by xXHotelCrazyXx

OP, as it pertains particularly to FI - you should probably check the FI section...

Its not a matter of being clueless, its just my personal opinion. Please dont take offense to it. My personal preference lies with Cosworth or Nismo when it comes to internals.Originally Posted by OCG35

You DO NOT WANT TO PURCHASE GTM CAMS! They are knockoffs of the JWT cams and are made in Mexico, and have been widely known for metal impurities within the cams. This is one of the reasons why GTM's motors are being found to be defective. Do some searching.Originally Posted by BlinkerFluid

I will be adding cams once I up the boost on my vortech as well. Call Scott, he can give you all the info you need on adding cams.
The general problem with adding cams is that they cost as much to install as the part itself costs because you pretty much have to remove the front part of the car, and pretty much entirely rip appart the engine. Cams are very labor intensive, which is why very few do cams without getting a built block. It's not that cams aren't worth it NA, it's that the cost benefit ratio isn't as strong if you are NA (besides most plan on eventually adding boost).
