$200-300 available for some mods..YEA SAVINGS BONDS

hey everyone, i'm no rush (or finanical position) to go out and buy every performance mod there is cause i'm not really a track or racing type person. however, i just found some savings bonds in some bottom drawer that are worth somewhere between $200-300 i think and well if i still need a couple hundred bucks in 2028 then i might as well just kill myself now and spare the meaningless life.....wow where did i just go with that..

anyway, i was just wondering what you would advise getting for something in this price range. i'm not really looking for a huge increase in hp since i don't really plan on testing it or showing it off at the track...i just want something to put in my signature...haha, but really, is there anything that i should get that would just make the car sound or perform better thats noticeable to me on the street? i assume most are gonna say get a jwt pop and z tube...am i correct?

or should i just cash these things in and invest them in something else that makes more than 0.009% a month?

any suggestions would be great, thanks a lot.

LOL 2028. The sad thing is that inflation usually grows faster then the dollar value for the bond. I would go with pop charger and z-tube. The one thing I actually miss when I got my S/C was the noise out of that thing. It just sounds really good.

i have popcharger/ztube, aluminum pedals, and clear corners. That is the extensive list of upgrades i have made on my g lol. I really love my p/c + ztube setup. cheap and changes the sound greatly. I had a noticeable increase in hp (not to much but i could feel it). I think that is the way to go personally if u are looking for engine upgrades. I like my aluminum pedals too and clear corners a LOT. I kinda want a tint too... thats something to consider.

G35Rush,

Go to this website and download the "Savings bond wizard" and enter in your bonds. It will tell you exactly how much they are worth, whether there is a penalty for you cashing them in early, and whether or not you get a tax break for saying you used them for "education".

I've installed this wizzard on my home PC and love it! Give it a shot... Savings Bond Wizard

Also, most savings accounts are yielding ~1% right now, and the bonds are doing about 3-5%, so if you had some spare cash in your savings account you'd be better off dipping into that rather than cashing in the bonds. That extra ~3% on $300 could be $9 each year. That could really add up...

So after 15 years you'd have enough money in interest to buy a "grounding kit".

301-bhp!!! ...and growing!

haha in 15 years i plan on driving a ferrari not cashing in my bonds for a grounding kit. i used the savings bond calculator thing and they add up to $265.32 and the rates are 2.61% as of right now...i earn about $7 a year with these things - wow.

two of them say "P5 - Includes 3-month interest penalty" and were issued in 2002...do you have to wait at least 5 years before cashing them in without penalty? cause i have three others that were issued in 98 and dont have a penalty on them.

thanks for the info neffster but i think this money can be better off invested somewhere else where you get more than 3% a year. even some mutual funds will give you upwards of 10% returns and arent as safe as bonds but still much safer than individual stocks.

A good portfolio has a mixture of investments, and one should be bonds. Depending on you age and tolerance for risk will determine the percentage. You could wake up one day and every equity is in the tank.

Having said that, you can get a nice custom speaker box from 4080 for that (check the audio forum), or z tube P/C, or front chin spoiler, or Samco hoses.

fish, my portofolio's mixture is running too lean. I think I need to do a 401K reflash. I may add a STOCK plenum and a CORPORATE BOND intake to it first though : )

For $200 - $300, IMO, the best bang for your buck performance mods would either be the Pop Charger/Z-Tube combo or a set of the Hotchkis Sways. Both will give you noticeable differences and are easy to install.

LOL. Of course that portfolio isn't available yet, it's in Japan being decoded.
