HELP...engine tick, tick, tick

Before anyone flames me for not searching, I have searched all over G35driver and the internet and still can't seem to find any good, applicable information so i'm turning to you all for help.

For awhile now, i have had a tick under the hood. From what i can tell it is coming from the valvetrain, but i'm not expert. Here is some info:

1.)The noise is not a knock, it is a very apparent tick, tick, tick.
2.)I have definetely driven the car hard so i'm not prefessing to say that i have babied it.
3.)When i hit the throttle the tick increases in accordance with engine speed.

I am going to be tearing into it, but i figured i would see if i could get some good ideas of where to start. As of right now, I'm going to check the the timing chains and tensioners, then i will check valves.

Any information will help. Do you have an idea what it could be, have you had this problem. Any thoughts are welcome.

Thanks all,

-Cameron

Fuel injectors. They've always been loud on the VQ series motor. Take a screw driver and put the metal end on the injector cap. Then take the handle and put it up to your ear. That's the sound you're hearing.

Measure the 24 shims, one on each lifter. Common for oil abuse to wear some more than others. Why the factory makes over 40 different available thicknesses to compensate for wear.
