Oil consumption and new engine

OK, been going through the oil consumption test for about month and a half now and finally got the word today that my new long block is on order. For those of you that have had this done, could you tell any difference in the performance of the new engine vs. the oil burner? I have read tons on this but have never read exactly what was causing the engine to burn oil in the first place. What has infinity done on the replacement engine to fix the disappearing oil trick? So far im very impressed the way my dealer has handled this issue, and the service/treatment I recieived at my dealar has been exceptional. This won't be my last Infiniti.
