Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

Unfortunately I did not get to keep the y pipe, but I will be ordering one.
I also thought my stock numbers were kind of low too.
I think it had something to do with the hot weather & humidity.
The technician who was in charge was sure on a cooler day
with less humidity I would have seen another 5 to 10 hp at the
wheels and this is coming from someone who has done thousands of dyno runs in all kinds of temps.

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

If you'd rather rely on actual math than a dyno guy's wild *** guess, check out this awesome link.....Enter the stuff and it tells you what percent of rated HP you're getting depending on conditions.

Thanks again for sharing your data.

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

Does this Y-Pipe have a 3" collector or 2.5"?

ie, is it same diameter as stock exhaust? or same as Fujitsubo?

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

SagiSRP,
Your comment to Catatafish that the Z saw bigger gains was because of it's freer flowing intake doesn't hold up logically. More gain meant more restriction to start. The 350Z would have had to have had more restricted air flow to start to see gains like that. There may be other factors involved when the claims on 350z were made, but the difference in the intakes on our two cars is not one of them.

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

PlatG,

I'm not claiming that the Z saw bigger gains because of it's freer flowing intake, I am merely stating that there are difference between the two cars (gearing, 6mt/5at, intake, etc)that they dynoed as well as other variables (temp, humidity, etc) which will throw off the dyno..

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

Fluffydot, their Y-pipe is 2 7/8" or 73mm at the collector. Off the header outputs it is 2 3/8" or 60.3mm

Some aftermaket system's for the Gcoupe are 70mm at the down pipe, some are 76.3mm.

Running their Y-pipe with a oem system downstream and your getting a 3/16 high ring at the mid pipe flange that will block flow. Any aftermarket y-pipe with a 65mm collector does not have this issue. The oem Y-pipe is so bad, even this mis-step still see's gains. Me, I would spend $20 to install a transition tube to smoothly blend 73mm to 65mm. It's not about being picky, it's about obeying flow laws.

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

Ya know what's frustrating here is that I came upon this thread searching for the correct dyno calculators to find BHP compared to RWHP & TRQ numbers, and I still have no clue. This OEM dyno showed 219.5 HP and 208 Trq compared to an OEM 5AT Coupe that did 227.6 and 216.7 Trq...I thought they were supposed to be dynoing the same thing or within 1-2 HP...b/c on the same day the 5AT coupe did those numbers a 6MT OEM coupe did 229.7 and 222.6 for HP and Trq. These numbers (b/f he did the Y-Pipe) are way below that...but if you divide them into 260 for a correction factor it's only 1.18+ for BHP and 1.25 for Trq...not the flat 1.23 a lot of guys are using.

Re: The Y Pipe, I would love it if someone could take video footage of both a stock and Y piped or Stock and Cat back with Stillen or Borla back to back for a great comparo. I would do an exhaust in a heartbeat but I don't want the drone or WOT obnoxiousness of a loud exhaust like on my Mustang.

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

There is no way to accurately compare dyno runs w/o using the SAE correction factors. Even then you'd need to over lay the 2 graphs to see where the gains are varying.

If you're not going to dyno a group of cars on the same dyno, on the same day with SAE corrections, forget about doing comparisons with ANY TYPE of relative accuracy.

Variables include, but are not limited to...

Type/brand of tires
Weight of tires
Tire pressure
Amount of traction from the tires
Temperature of the tires
Outside Temperature
Outside Relative Humidity
Outside Pressure
Type/Grade/Brand of gasoline
Weight of tire/wheel combo (Inertia)
The way the engine was broken in
The amount of mileage since the last oil change
The type of engine oil
Dynos inherent inaccuracy (hysteresis)
Type of dyno (Mustang, Dynojet, other)

That's 15 variables that I could think of (off of the top of my head) in about 2 minutes. There are probably another 50 variables that I'm over looking.

If you're trying to find a pattern, good luck. Every set of runs are independent and good only for that set of runs. Trying to take dyno data from Florida in August will not be valid for someone in Montana in September... Thus the paracitic losses will be higher/lower and the dyno reading will vary (sometimes drastically).

The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

LOL - Boss about 3 of those things can actually be managed by a same day same place dyno runs on more than 1 car...temp and humidity - and only if you hurry and make swap cars in 1 minute or less!

All those SFL dyno runs were on cars that were broken in exactly the same - dont you know.

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

PS nice AF ..what does your butt tell you about the effectiveness of the Teknosquare? I keep hitting the rev limiter now and am thinking about a ecu reflash. TS is my last choice and looks like the only choice tho...

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.

lol...All you need to do is go into a photo editor and resize them to 600 x 400 after you have uploaded them to your pc form your camera.

There is a setting on all digital cameras too that you can set as a default for pic sizing, IE, Fine vs. Normal and then size.
