Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.
Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.
Neffster,
You 100% right about exhausts. I think its funny that a Y-pipe gets so much debate. The gains from exhaust and a Y on a G are so small it really doesnt warrant changing it. I went with the HKS because I like the look of the tips. I didnt expect a big gain with it nor the Y pipe. The one area that I DID notice a gain was changing the cats to test pipes and my headers.
People need to understand that on these cars the only people that will see a noticable gains are turbo and supercharged G's from y and exhaust changes.
A good indicator of what DOES increase power is the Crawford package of plenum, CATS, headers, and an ECU reflash. Doing all that is worth 40hp at the wheels. For people with no desire to go FI I think this is a good way to go.

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.
I would be careful in drawing conclusions based on various dyno days. For example, it's not clear based on our Nor. Cal. results for SEDANs if gains are due to just the y-pipe alone, or a combo of y-pipe and mid-section (resonator) change. None of the sedans had only a y-pipe. Coupe owners are fortunate to have a reasonably good mid-pipe OEM design. I don't think there's much argument that the majority of a cat-back system's value is in the y-pipe (x-pipe) and mid-section combo. The muffler is irrelevent (other than for the "sound"). If you want to draw conclusions based on our dyno day, BY FAR the biggest "bang for the buck" is the timing advance an ECU reflash provides. The price may well be shorter engine life (neither running leaner at higher RPM, nor detonation are benefitial to engine longevity, even if they do make power). However, before looking at plenum, test pipes, ECU mods., think about 2 issues: 1) If you live in a state like CA with smog tests, you'll have to put your cats and stock plenum back on every 2 years. 2) If anything ever goes wrong requiring servicing, you'd better return that ECU back to stock, and replace the stock plenum. Nissan might well have a good case in rejecting warantee claims otherwise.

Only thing I can say to above is that the dealer won't know you changed the ECU. This comes from the guys in my dealers garage - not the moron advisor who thinks my old injen made the crank pulley go bad.

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.
If it's really true that a TS ECU can't be detected, that's great. I guess I'll need to call them to confirm. The first thing the dealer techs. will do to diagnose a problem is hook up to the OBD port. They will be able to read a version number (which hopefully TS doesn't change). If they also read a firmware CRC, this would have to be changed by TS. Indeed it's likely that a TS re-flash wouldn't be detected initially, but it certainly could be if service depts. are told to look for it. If there is an engine problem, AND Nissan can show that the ECU has been modified, might not they reject any warantee claim???

Re: Unlimited Tuning Y-pipe dyno.
I got my YPipe from Unlimited Tuning this week and I totally love it. I had my mechanic install it and he said the FITMENT was PERFECT to my stock exhuast, he has never seen an after market part with such perfect fit. The finish was like a mirror and the welds are AMAZING. I took a car for a spin right after the install and I noticed the difference immediately, the car definitely PULLS HARDER just like what other people said, the and sound is great, indeed there is a sound video clip available on their website; http://www.unlimitedtuning.com/y-pipe.htm on the bottom of the page. Overall, I would highly recommended this YPipe to anyone, if U have spent 40k on my car already, I would like to get the best parts for the car, just my opinion.
