I am looking for my next mod and am undecided on which to go with first. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. The Crawford v5 Plenum or the Ultra S Underdrive Crank Pulley. Any experiences with either of these products or both? What type of exhaust would you recomend for a (somewhat refined sounding) HP increase. My current performance mods are Z-Tube with K&N Drop in and a Grounding Kit. Any suggestions on mods would be great. Thanks...

 

I have both. The Plenum really shines with HF Cats. The Pulley was much more of a subtle gain.
I also run a Borla TD . Sound is not too loud and the Borla TD offers good perfomance at a value price. If money were no object I would have goen with the Stillen TD (slightly better sound).

My install sequence was
a) Borla TD
b) Craw Plenum
c) Craw CATs
d) UR pulley

If I were to do again I would have swapped CATs before TD just to see hear the sound diff.

 

I probably just didn't get enough sleep last night and my brain is now suffering for it, but what's a TD? True dual?

Not to detract from the Crawford plenum , cause mine works like a champ. However; It does add more noise (intake resonace sound) than I had hoped. I prefer to be as stealth as possible.

When the APS plenum is out in the fall , I will probalby be swaping it for my V5. I don't expect perfomance to be measurably different , but I do expect the APS "Cast" version to be nearly as quiet as the stock plenum was.

also a note , All my mods to date are intended to be conduce to a TT install this winter. Targeting APS. If you want to go SC , don't get the pulleys , since they will not be useable.

So if you are patient and can wait , a powder coat V5 will probably be for sale at ~$200.

Thanks for the info Jdove. I will probably go with the HF Cats and an exhaust while I wait for the APS plenum. Did some looking around and the APS looks like a quality product. Still not sure which exhaust to go with to get the best HP increase with out the sound being too loud. Do you think the stillen sounds better than the borla because the note is better or because it is louder or do you like the stillen because it offers the best performance?

 

I think the Stillen sounded better than the Borla. It had a more
"refined" sound, not really louder. The power diffs between the Stillen TD and the Borla TD is negligible. The Borla has a more Domestic Bass sound and costs significantly less.
I went with Borla because of it's more cost effective.
And close "enough" to Stillen in performance and sound.

 

the stock exhaust is not restrictive enough to be able to get incredible gains out of ANY full catback system. Get what you think sounds the best and what the right price is. The hp/tq gains are going to be negligable on n/a no matter what you get. If you are looking for a louder/better (arent loud and better the same thing?) sound then i would suggest cats and a crawford plenum instead of the exhaust. They will make your car louder and it'll sound less luxury and more performance but the hp gains will be a LOT more significant than what you would get with even the best exhaust.
