It wasn't the ECU that was holding you back, it was the fact that the engine has rather low torque at 1800 rpm and the effect you were seeing (as well as everyone else with an OEM TC) was the same as letting out the clutch on a stick at 1800 rpm. Not much happens. The engine is just not in its power range at that low rpm. Raising the stall speed allow the engine to move into a higher power band before the tranny engages.
Other posts have referred to the lockup speed which is the speed at which the tranny doesn't allow "any" slippage between the engine and the drive shaft.
Modified TC's are available from Level Ten in NJ and (I think) from Forged Internals.

Tell the truth....you have a upgraded valve body and a TC...thats it . Nothing special every one has one now !!!!
