Lately, after I drive my 04 G sedan, there is this burning smell that comes from under the car. any idea what it could be and if anyone has had this happen to them?

There is a burning smell associated with the ABS/TC system that a lot of guys notice in the winter with their heat on. If you search, you'll find quite a few threads on this.

Not to say it couldn't be something else, but I typically notice it in the winter, and then it has gone away in the summer

Yeah, I will consider both your guys options. But there was no smell during the summer. Thanks though.

No idea, nobody's ever identified it.

It usually comes in the winter, and most who smell it say it comes after the ABS or VDC functions on ice or in the snow.

Pretty common, but nobody has any clue what it's from exactly

I get the same burning rubber smell each winter. It only happens during the colder winter months when my heat is on. At first I thought it was my belts burning, but the culprit may be from the ABS/VDC system. I created a thread about it a couple years ago, like mustang said, nobody has been able to figure out exactly what is burning/creating the smell:

Mine had an almost electrical burning smell from under the car when I first got it... turned out to just be a plastic bag melted on part of the exhaust.

I have an automatic and my car used to smell after I drove it really hard. I think it turned out to be my transmission oil as I had that changed and the smell stopped.

That was what I was going to suggest it might be.

if its occurring more in the winter when you notice your slip and VDC lights turn on-this would lead me to believe that you guys may be losing traction often and VDC is kicking when and applying the brakes.
