Installed Crawford V5 Plenum
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced with happening... After installing the plenum with a Z tube and pop charger... started the car.. idle had like aknocking sound and the noise coming from the plenum was hollow and if I rev high afraid that the plenum might crack or break...?
Any feedback on this would be great....
Thanks

Re: Installed Crawford V5 Plenum
The Engine does get loud w/the plenum at high rpm. I've bounced off the rev limiter w/the plenum w/no prob. I remember I'd get scared at high rpm cause it would roar. Some of the guys that also have this mod say they hear a hollow sound sometimes. If you eventually get the TS ECU (to correct that lean condition that the plenum introduces, in addition to other benefits) flash the engine quiets down a bit at high rpm.

Re: Installed Crawford V5 Plenum
I took my Crawford off for mainly that reason. I couldnt stand the tapping and weird intake sounds from the welded piece of aluminum resonating. I now have the stock plenum, Z-Tube, and drop-in K/N now and it sounds good and has great torque where it should be. Up to you, but I would ditch the Crawford and wait for the nice cast unit coming from APS. That looks to be a well-engineered unit instead of a cut and paste job.

Use a hood liner to quit the bad noises..I have V-4 and it sounds like a mess until I put H-liner on it. The Z tune will maked it harder to hear anything from plenum.

Re: Installed Crawford V5 Plenum
My Gosh
IMHO, The Crafword Plenum (was) and still is the best bang for the buck out there. I don't notice any weird nosies, but I have had my plenum for a couple of years. First a V2 and now a V5. I changed for cosmetic reasons only. It evens out the mixture problem and adds greatly to the midrange and high end. I do not and never heard any strange noises. With my intake (POPCharger and "Z" tube) and exhaust (custom pipes with a Magnaflow and resonators), at full acceleration there is a sound of power. At normal cruising speeds, it sounds quiet to me, however when I mash the throttle and down shift, all heck breaks loose. The car takes off, and the roar begins.
No, the "G" is not as quiet as my last car, a Lexus SC300 was, but it is a far more satisfying car to drive. This is a High Performance Automobile, not a Cadillac.
Again - The Crawford Plenum is great mod.

Re: Installed Crawford V5 Plenum
I installed a Crawford V5 Plenum a few weeks ago. There is a slight tapping hollow sound to it. It does it more at mid RPM and when the engine is cold. Just as a point of reference, my wife did not notice anything despite the difference in sound. It's not bad for the slight HP increase...

Re: Installed Crawford V5 Plenum
I'm wondering of you caught the oil-fill cap's gasket in the plenum when you were cranking it down. That's a pretty common mistake.
V5 do have a little more noise, but not unconfortably so. Di you use the double gasket method, or just use the single that came with the plenum. Most of us use the and old gasket together.
Cheers, Ted

hey everyone... Thanks for all the feedback... yeah.. I did have some trouble with that rubber piece around the oil cap... I used a flathead to move it out of the way while i layed the plenum down... and yeah i did use the the old gasket and the one that came with the plenum...
