The filter is encased in that CF box, right?

So you can remove the filter to clean it? or is it permanently
attached to the inside of the CF box?

Well, I bought my Y-Pipe from these guys and now I think that the induction system would compliment it pretty well. I spoke to Mike at UT and he says that there will be about a gain of 5-7 hp, which is good b/c some intakes end up losing hp. By the way, they say that they have tested the new Filter and I'm pretty if the regular cone and heat shield one worked better then they woulda used it. I will be ordering mine this weekend hopefully. Even if not for the performance gains, the aesthetic value increases in my opinion.

 

The little filter on that hose is basically to prevent anything from entering the hose. What is that hose for? That hose is the fresh air source for the EVAP system. What is the EVAP system? It is a method of preventing gasoline vapors in the gas tank from escaping to the atmosphere. There is a little box called the charcoal canister that collects the gasoline vapors and under engine vacuum, it opens up a purge valve, letting the engine suck in all that fuel saturated air. (The purge valve is actually pulse width modulated by the ECU but that's beyond the scope of this reply.) If the air from the charcoal canister is being sucked into the engine, air must also be able to get sucked into the charcoal canister. That is what the hose with the filter on it is for. Notice it's connected to ambient pressure and not vacuum pressure at the manifold.

Now, the only way for the system to work properly and still allow the engine to have the correct air/fuel ratio is if the hose is connected to the pipe. Remember the air from the charcoal canister is filled with fuel vapor. The ECU calculates based on the Pulse Width Modulation of the purge valve, the MAF reading, and the O2 sensors, the duration of the fuel injector pulses. If you pull out this hose that was originally designed to be there, you're throwing the delicate factory calibration out the window as the ECU desparately tries to keep the engine from stalling.

If you use a setup like this one and just put a filter on the hose, idle conditions will suffer if you don't get the occassional stall. Trust me, I've tried it.

WEll i have the breather thing on my EVAP hose and the stall conditions are fine. So i guess its still a mystery then...

The purpose of the breather is to filtrate the waste gas from the charcoal canister, I have this induction system install on my car for a while now and havent had any problems. We service our vehicle at the dealer here in the NY area and all the technicans are very impressed with the mods we have. In addition, we do all the testing on our own vehicle before we release the product to the market. The brether is a very common upgrade in the performance market today, thanks.

 

Yea lou ive seen it liek that, i love the way it looks showing the plenum!! I wouldnt cut up my CF engine cover though, wanna make one for me? =)

i'm going to get a CF one, and paint the outer part of it red i think and leave the middle part CF.

 

well im pretty much bought, me and my friend will hopefully both be ordering our intakes this friday or saturday.

By the way, I hope this mod reacts well with the Fujitsubo Y-Pipe and Gordgee's Grounding Kit. How much total hp can I expect?
