Re: Digital Clock
The donor clock looks like it will match perfectly, although I have yet to set the clock in the car. Hopefully tonight I will be able to power up the clock and set it in place.
I have about 6 little buzzers/beepers sitting around my house. I wanted to build an all in one module to mount under the dash, but under the dash a 110dB beep still can't be heard outside of the car well enough to continue. So, now I'm looking for a weatherproof electronic beeper that would be mounted under the hood somewhere. If I didn't have a 'real' job all this would be done by now!

Re: Digital Clock
Well the results were so-so.
As some of you may already know I picked up an 02 Mini Cooper over the weekend and while driving it home from the dealership I noticed the digital clock would be a perfect canidate for my G swap. So, in less then 24 hours of ownership I had the clock ripped out and taken apart.
The major drawback thus far is that the two vehicles use two completely different dimmer circuits, and they are NOT compatible with each other. The G uses a 0 - 12vdc dimmer (0 being off 12 being very bright) and the Mini starts out at aroudn 6vdc and goes closer to 5 as the lights get dimmer. So, in my testing I dimmed my G to half way to get to the 6VDC output and got the Mini clock to temporarily work with a dimmed G interior.
Overall it doesn't look too bad, I used black tape to cover up the areas outside of the clock, that will be painted and striaght when its done. I also plan on cutting a new piece of glass for the front of the clock, to eliminate the hole from the old set switch. To set the time on the new clock I think I will have to run two switches to either the glove box or ashtray, as there is no way to keep them local (unless I use tiny pin holes and find different swtiches and redo the whole thing).
The Mini light at full brightness is more orange and more harsh then the subtle G amber lights. I am hoping I will be able to fix that once the dimmer control circuit is done. I think if I turn it down a hair it will blend perfectly and all will be wonderful in G land. Pictures below.

I am now looking in to having custom LCD displays made for the clock. The first company I talked to has a min order of 3,000 custom parts.... I don't think I could move that many clocks so I'm going to keep looking.
Once I find a screen I will then program it all myself. I think I will include one pushbutton to adjust the time, and I will place it right below the hole in the stock plastic cover where the analog switch comes out.
One thing that really has me excited (because I'm a total dork) is that having an LCD in the dash gives you the ability to display whatever you want. I will most likely set mine up to display my AEM wideband output and possible set it up to do boost also. Things like EGT, fuel pressure, etc... could be added, assuming you could get an analog output from a sending unit

That would be really cool to have a generic digital display with a built in clock feature. Even better would be to use the steering wheel radio control to flip through the display options :P

I posted the pics right before the site went down. I don't have the pics with me either, they are at home in Dayton and I am in the great city of Chicago.
The steering wheel controls would be neat, but then how would you control your radio? I haven't decided how to switch between displays yet. Maybe a hidaway push button? Or, a VDC styled button to take up a blank? I'll have to look into it. Like I said though, I have to find a matching LCD or its not even worth my time.
