Question Valve cover question and a couple more

Long story short.
After a spirited drive i noticed that my car was misfiring and shaking pretty bad,the problem was in the spark plug boot seal leaking.
Since i am in Canada getting a hold of the seals are impossible and the average price for a valve cover is around 350$.
My question is.
1. Should i get a R&D rebuild kit?
2. Or should i just get oem valve cover?
3. Should i just replace one or do both since i am there(would be nice to save some $)
4. What other gaskets should i change when it come to replacing the lower and upper plenum?
5. Anything else that needs to be changed while the lower plenum and valve covers are off.
6. How would you recommend cleaning up the old gaskets around the valve cover?
Thank you so much.

I'm not expert and can't answer ALL the questions....but I did stay at a Holiday inn last night

I have been reading up on this subject. My conclusions from all that I have read is that it's best to go OEM and do BOTH at the same time.

ALso an interesting bit somone posted was how hard it was to get the seal around the valve cover to stay on while you at positioning it correctly. This is my problem...leakig AROUND the valve cover. Guy said use a small dab of RTV and let dry enough to hold gasket in place before attempting to put new covers on.

Grubbs infiniti can't get them to you a little cheaper than $700 a pair?? I know you have some import tax or such.

That is all I have. Good luck.

I would just get the aftermarket kit to fix the existing

No sense in replacing with new ones that will just leak again - it will save you money to do the kit as well

how long is their back order?

consider that if your ignition coil boot is soaked you might want to change those out
I have a set of them for sale in the marketplace

I know people that have run valve covers that are leaking - with no problems, for a very long time. Just clean out the spark tube every now and again. as long as the plug isn't submerged you are ok. just try to keep the ignition coil from absorbing the oil..

I just replaced both valve covers last weekend. Debated going with an aftermarket supplier of modified covers, but decided I got 100,000 miles out of the originals so hoping to get another 100,000 before dealing with the issue again, so went with OEM valve covers.

Ordered mine online from the Nismo Shop (www.nismoshop.com). Cost me $365.37 for BOTH new valve covers (the new PCV valve is also included/installed) plus $25.53 for new valve cover gaskets for a total pre-tax and shipping of $389.90. Tax in California is different than Canada (so you'll have to calculate that), but shipping was $13.08 by regular Fed-Ex ground shipment. These are OEM Nissan covers, which are the same for both G35's and Nissan 350Z's for the same years.

By the way, just pay attention to the two corners on each valve cover that the factory applied the silicone seal, scrape off their old stuff and put a dab of new silicone gasket sealer in the same two locations, and you're set. No need to reinvent the wheel here.

Running great and no more oil leaks.....

people always say stuff like the oem covers are defective etc. but in actuality the seals are wear and tear and they all will eventually leak. its jus unfortunate that its one peice with the covers.

Thats a great price.
The driver side is literally soaked, when i pulled the coil itseparated.
Ordered 6 almost new coils from a member on here.
The passenger side is leaking but not as bad.
It misfires so bad that my GF noticed it(she has the same car, that's why i guess)

I know that swapping an engine is a waste of money, the whole car has been. But its a fun DD,auto track and going to work car.
So my question to you guys would be?if i find a engine 70-100k and i can swap it for 1500(that pretty fair to me)should i do it?another thing is,i know guys were able to swap engines from later models.

If not nismoshop is my option.

P.S chaning valve covers is a B$tch.
