Mobil1 Extended Performance - 15,000 miles
Hi all,
Just wondering if anybody has tried this oil yet, or knows about pricing info.
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...rformance.aspx
Basically, its a new Mobil1 fully synthetic formula.
"A High-endurance motor oil with 36 percent more anti-wear additives and 37 percent more cleaning agents than current Mobil 1 formulations. It is a fully synthetic formulation that helps extend engine life, reduce oil breakdown and minimize engine wear -- all while helping to keep your engine clean. Improvements that add up to exceptional protection for 15,000 miles. Guaranteed."
It comes in: 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40, and 15W-50
Any opinions or knowledge about this?
I'm sure people who use AMSOIL can share their thoughts...

Even though the oil will hold up longer, won't it still get very very dirty if you leave it in your car that long? Especially if you have intake mods.
No thanks, Im gonna stick to my 3k mile changes with regular dino oil, my engines have always treated me very well because I make sure they have good clean fluids at all times.

Chances are their oil will last 15k miles easy. However, all that matters at the end of the day is whether Mobil's guarantee will replace your engine when/if it fouls up due to inadequate oil changes.
I'd assume that Infinity will not be swayed by Mobil's statement and thus will invalidate your engine warranty if you change only every 15000 miles.
I have used special long-life oil change intervals like this. Typically you can use even dino oil for a long time, swapping filters and a quart of oil rather than all of your oil. It does work fine, and your oil remain clean as long as your filter is changed regularly.

The extended oil change is nothing new. When I had my Bimmer in 1999, E46, the oil change under warranty was over 10K miles. The computer calculated the driving conditions, temperature, etc to determine the frequency of oil change. Of course, I had use the Bimmer synthetic oil which was very reasonalbe back then, about $4 a quart. The MB also has a similar extended oil change for their cars. But I feel if you don't drive much, you should have the oil changed in 9 months regardless of mileage.

i worked at exxonmobil for 3 summers as an intern. 1 of the summers was in paulsboro nj, where they formulated it (they also mix the formula 1 fuel blends there, which is sweet). It's also where they tested it. Using the older formula of mobil1 they ran cars on the dyno for 25,000 mile intervals with minimal wear. They had a bmw with over 1,000,000 (doctor evil finger pose) miles on it. I'll be switching over to it for my 3rd oil change, just gotta read a little more on the new filters out. I put about 8-10k a yeah on it cause i have another old car for work. But i figure changin 2 times a year, or maybe once if a filter can handle it would be the plan for me.
