So I just finished my headers install...

I installed my headers yesturday afternoon. I just have to say its as much of a pain in the a** as everyone says it is It took me about 6hrs. I'm confident if I were to do it again it could get it down to about 5hrs or even a little under. Its still a major headache to do though.

After my Crawford headers were installed, I noticed a slight idle "issue" when the car was coming to a stop and the vehicle was in neutral. The rpm's would dip down to ~500 for about 1-2 seconds and it would feel like the car was going to stall, but it never did thankfully.

Just today I had Lokey Infiniti hook my car up to the OBD-II Consult and they tried raising my idle but they had no luck. Then then advanced my timing by 2 degrees and PROBLEM SOLVED! I'm back up to 600-700 at idle ALL THE TIME.

If you notice this phenomenon, at least you know how to address it.

It may have been set too low b4 they upped the timing, Todd, but watch out for any sign on pinging.
Did the tech say what he set it at?
If memory serves, I believe the Sedan factory setting is 15 +,- and the Coupe is 20 +,-. (BTDC)

I got some cheap Megan Racing headers. Just for temporary until I can go FI

I haven't had any idling issues yet, but thanks for the heads up!

No he didn't say, but I might be able to find out still. I was watching over his shoulder and he was going in and out of windows pretty quickly. I don't remember seeing numbers like 20 +,-. I do remember seeing 101% and 103% and he said that the car is operating in the correct ECU operational range...

The hose sits far from the header, its not going to melt. It just looks close to it in that pic cuz everything wasn't put back together yet.

I don't remember exactly how much it was, I bough the headers and the test pipes at the same time like a month or so ago, just never got around to installing the headers till recently. I think I paid like ~$350 or so for the combo.

I've done TWO header installs on my G (talk about pain in the a...). The first was a set of NISMO's, which were alll fine and dandy till the driver side collector began leaking. I later found out it was due to the fact that the I was running test pipes (they dont use the stock support brace, dont know of any that do actually, I wonder why) and so the weight of the mid pipe and rear section of the exhaust was on the collectors, which caused stress, which lead to the crack. I got the headers exchanged, but it took 2 months to get the replacements and so for the time being I picked up a set of Bolra headers, which have been on my car since. Never got around to installing the NISMO again, and quite frankly don't see a reason to go back with them. Performance wise, you can feel (as well as hear) a difference on the mid to upper RPM band. How much power, I have no idea, as I have never had my car on a Dyno, but there is a little gain. All I have to say about headers is, spend the $$$ and go for a brand name thats been around and knows what they're doing. The NISMO's were great, but the problem was due to another issue; however, a friend of mine with a Z wasnt so lucky. He picked up a set off eBay for $250 and although they looked very nice, they didn't line up with his OEM pipes and was designed in a such a way that it was clearing the steering linkage by milimeters, which would have hit with even the slightest engine throttle. Ultimatly he ended up returning them, so the moral of the story is, you get what you pay for!
