your opinion on an intake
your opinion on an intake
Im planning on buying an intake for my G35 coupe but I would like an opinion on which would give more boost and less risk of sucking in water, etc. I was thinking of an Injen pipe with a K & N filter or a JWT Pop-Charger w/ Z-tube. Your input would be appreciated...
I see you're in san diego. Trust me, water is the least of your worries. And if it is, then just get the nismo with the bypass valve. Otherwise, injen would be fine. Even then, u can always switch to short ram. People will tell you this. Z tube w/ k&N filter will be the best. However, if u're into looks, then you can go with an intake. Either way, the gains are not significant. I mean, you'll maybe hear a difference but its not like Night and Day. It's a little simpe mod...
Best solution when it comes to water is... AVOID IT.
Short ram is better in a sense that air will take less time reaching the engine. There for slightly faster throtle response and may be a tad louder. But you are somewhat faced with sucking in air from the inside the engine bay where its hotter.
CAI intakes are better for top end and bad for low end since it takes time for air to travel. Water is of no concern unless you going into a deep puddle or you are driving nose first into a lake where its pass hlaf of your wheel. Other then that.. noworries. Bypass valve will only slow you down. It has a tendency to open up at WOT.
For the simplest and most cost effective wayi say go short ram (JWT pop charger and z-tube) our engines are not responding to power gain from just intakes. besides... OBDII will kill that gain anyways in a matter of weeks.

I got the K&N Typhoon CAI and definitely recommend it. Living in Vancouver, BC, it tends to rain ALOT, so I put on that waterproof but very breathable cover on the cone. I still get the awesome growl and slight performance gains, and I think the breathable cover is less restrictive than the nismo by-pass valve.
