UPDATE- the final bill was $10,391. The $14K was a maximum estimate, which included a full tear-down inspection($1500), and the book labor and parts included. For whatever reason Fresno Infiniti, didnt even come close to that in the end. This included a new longblock, ancillary parts, labor, and cleaning out the engine bay. WOW I will deffinately be more carefull in rainy weather. Stupid mistake of my action and mine alone.

Even though there may be other, lower cost engine replacement solutions available to you, the $10,000+ cost stuck because that amount is what your insurance agent authorized... for whatever reason. Maybe it was all above-board, and maybe it wasn't. I'll leave it at that.

Maybe I'm just getting cynical in my old age.

10K!?!? Wow, and we wonder why insurance costs so much. These shops really stick it to the man, and all of us in the end.

All true! I did infact find some other solutions, but my car only has a little less than 60k miles on it and I wanted to maintain resaleability and keep the power train warranty intact(I have the 6yr/100k). Those were my biggest factors. Luckily enough, now I may have a private party buyer who seems willing to pick up my car for about $27K, which will allow me to walk into an '06 for a little more.
