Plenum Spacer...

I don't really want to get too many mods, I am pretty much happy with my car the way it is, but I might be interested in a plenum spacer. Is there a huge difference or is it not worth it? If it makes a big difference, which one would you recommend without having to cut the engine cover? Thanks!

dump the engine cover and go straight for the 1/2" if you really do care about dress up.. look for the G35 version of the 350z cover. or you can just use a 350z cover. the 5/16 will add a good amount of power without loosing the engine cover.. but why stop at the appetizers when the prime rib is about to be served

Don't the dynos show that the 5/16" has more useable power in that it has greater gains throughout the powerband, whereas the 1/2" will have greater gains towards peak and from 5k+ rpm? I'm getting a plenum within the next 2 weeks and have been contemplating about this for quite some time now...

to tell you the truth, guys, the spacer is one of the easiest bolt on mods for the G, BUT the APS tall-boy plenum is a step up from the motordyne spacers. If you look at the underside of the APS plenum replacement, you will see ALOT more volume added by both the enlarged front portion and the removal of 3 bolt threads. That right off the bat = more space which = more breathing room = more horsies. The APS plenum is a shyteload more expensive, but if you are really looking for a basic, bolt on mod with alot of kick and more bang for your buck, skip the spacer and go right for the APC plenum replacement.

here's a link: http://performancenissanparts.com/ca...86bbe243bfdbae

check out the picture where it compares plenums. kinda crappy photo, but u can see what im talking about in terms of space and the threads

hope this was helpful

yes, do the iso thermal spacer and you'll be very happy; very noticeable difference

i've never seen an independent dyno to verify that it's a better ugprade than an MD product

useable power for everday driving but we all know if we really need power we're going to go past 5,500RPM

the APS plenum does look good but the price is UP there (i believe a litte more expesive then the Crawford). I never had a chance to test the APS plenum BUT from looking at it.. it seems like APS molded the OEM plenum.. made it taller and slammed a big APS logo on it.. if you look at it closely the edges are sharp and the inside isnt smooth at all (APS). also the air passage from the throttle body seems pretty small compaired to the Crawford.. BUT if the APS plenum works as well as their turbo kit then i wouldnt mind buying it.

The Crawford Upper Plenum and Motordyne's 1/2" spacers have been dyno proven to put out the same horsepower. since APS is about the same size i doubt there will be any major hp difference if any at all. The APS plenum is bigger by 200cc vs the Crawford.. theres a limit on how much power you'll gain by modifying the OEM design.. If you check out the Mod & Tech section someone is making a nice new manifold.

keep in mind that motordyne also has their iso thermal kit and you'll be able to rest your hand on top of your intake manifold after doing a few +120mph run Drift350GT saw this after i installed the ISO kit with a 1/2" spacer on his 6MT laser red coupe.

EDIT: You'll want the 1/2" plenum spacer from motordyne with their ISO thermal kit. Save the +$100 and go get the prime rib dinner
