Bill,

Give me a call when you're ready to pull the trigger.

I did the fan conversion on my 03.5 sedan with DaveO a couple of weeks ago and I am certain that there is a power increase. How much I don’t know but the butt dyno does show an increase and I can tell that the rpms climb faster at wot. My nav also indicates that the mpg has increased after the conversion.

Also recently I had a chance to drive an 05 loner and I must say that the fans on the loaner and on the conversion behave very similarly if not identical. Overall I’m really satisfied with the mod, performance wise and also the end result of the conversion looks very clean, if the fans didn’t have the logos on them I think they would pass as stock fans. Thanks again to DaveO for pioneering this mod and for the help with the conversion.

If I am not mistaken, this is my setup. DaveO can confirm my setup.

2) Dual 12" fans which replaces both factory fans
Fan Control:
3) VSC/ECM

Jeee35,

Thanks for the feedback. Your subjective and objective assements are directly in line with the feedback I've received from those who have actually done the conversion.

You're correct in that you have the dual 12" fans with VSC/ECM control.

I'd plan on between $350.00 and $500.00 depending on the option you choose.

I tried to PM you... your PM mail box is full.

I have an 03.5 5AT sedan and I have been running without a belt driven fan for 4 months. I have experienced sitting in I-5 traffic for 20-30 minutes, tooling around town etc, and the temp gauge has not moved above the halfway point EVER. The auxiluary electric fan alone seems to be sufficient for the ambient temps so far (75F max) up here in WA state. Im keeping an eye out as the outside temps rise and will convert to electric if needed, but so far no need. Am I suggesting to others to remove your belt driven fan and run with nothing there? Well, no, just sharing my experience and lack of any cooling issues without one. And yes, it does seem to rev quicker especially since I have the UR underdrive pulley set as well.

I agree, the stock electric fan is probably more than up to the task of providing cooling for temps below 75 degrees and relatively dry air. I guess it could be a good track mod assuming you're running in cool air and blast the heater right after the run. How easy is it to remove the belt? Removing the accessory belt on my old VQ30 was a simple 15 minute process and most of that time was spent jacked up the car and removing the wheel.

If you're serious about doing a fan conversion you can PM me with your contact information.

The stock temperature gauges I've tested are quite unresponsive. I've seen my coolant temps rise to 230F (on a 105F day at 75-80 mph with the A/C on climbing the Cajon Pass). The gauge indicated one graduation below half way.

A reminder for those who have forgotten. The ECM shuts down the electric fans once air flow through the radiator is "sufficient" (probably around 25mph)... so this was a cooling system capacity, not a fan CFM/operation issue.

Also for those who are considering removing the mechanical fan's drive belt.. On a G35 this disables the fan, the power steering pump and the alternator. The good news is you'll still have the A/C compressor and A/C (auxiliary) electric fan.

An update: I've now installed 12 fan conversations including two that are on Vortech Supercharged A/T Sedans.

You're right. Maybe he removed the whole assembly and just ran a shorter belt?

On my car I did not remove any belts. Just unbolted the fan assy from the water pump pulley, added 3-4 washers between each bolt and pulley to fill the gap left from no fan, and left everything else alone.

Did you leave the upper and lower fan shrouds in place?

FYI. The pulley your removed the fan from is now an idler pulley like all the dual electric fan G's and 350Z have. The VQ35DE engine's water pump is driven off of the primary timing chain.

Yes, left the shrouds there. Good point on the idler pulley. Im still used to a water pump being behind the fan. Old dog I am.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but... Quick fix to help some belt driven fan issues...

my belt driven fan was super loud, it sounded like a SUV driving around. I threw some grease on there and now its so much quieter... any lubricant should work. I could only throw it with my finger about 1/8th of a revolution (it would move over like one blade) and now it'll spin almost half way around or so. I'm sure it gave me a good HP gain, when i floored it before the fan was louder than the motor.
