No prove everyone wrong not just ME. LOL!

It's common sense by pulling the load off the engine with a Electric fan makes a nice power increase. This type of power increase generally will not show up on a dyno. Even the TITAN owners are doing it and see a nice increase on that V8.

I will say it again, UNTIL YOU TEST THE MOD, STFU. You are useless and always against every mod that has been tested on this site for years.
Russ,

Put your hostility to the side for a second and have a debate for once.

I am well aware of the advantages of a typical mechanical clutch-driven fan vs an electric fan. However, the mechanical fan used on the G35 is not your typical mechanical fan. One, it's not driven all the time like most truck-style fans. Two, it's a plastic fan and not a heavy metal fan. Three, it's a rather small diameter fan. Four, the fan is rarely engaged except at initial start up and on scalding off days when you're idling for extended periods. Five, the e-fan equipped cars are still spinning a pulley where the mechanical fan resides on the 03 car therefore there is parasitic loss.

I admit that the mechanical fan is going suck out a bit more power than the e-fan when it is engaged. However, in situations like that (extreme heat, extremely hot motor), most of us aren't racing the car because the car is already a few tenths slower because of the heat. Also, the e-fan equipped cars will tend to run the e-fans for longer duration under these conditions because they can't move the air the mechanical fan can and the e-fans put a much heavier load on the alternator which does end up sucking out power.

You need to explain why this gain "generally will not show up on a dyno". That makes no sense. If the device is causing parasitic drag, you will see it on the dyno. There's no way around it. When power is measured from the tires, all drivetrain drag/losses are accounted for.

If swapping the mechanical fan for an e-fan made proven gains like that for the Trailblazer SS (10 whp gain - dyno proven numerous times) then I'd do it....probably tomorrow. However, the only information we have is someone's Gtech results and a dyno that shows no gain from 2500-6300rpms.

And finally, if the mechanical fan put so much drag on the motor, especially in the lower rpms, then why is it that the 03 cars including mine can:

1) Pull mid to low 2.1 60 foots
2) Pull 14.2-14.3s stock
3) Run 97-98mph in the 1/4 mile stock

If the mechanical fan was such a problem, I'd surely think 03 cars would be the slowest Gs on the bunch. However, if you look up the times in the drag section, some of the quickest NA cars are/were 2003 5AT sedans (14.2-14.3 stock).

I'd like to think you could come up with someone better than telling me I'm "useless" or that I should "STFU", but maybe you can't because the information to support your side of the argument isnt' out there. If I was against "every" mod as you claim, then why does my car have an MD spacer, z-tube, 06 midpipe, and Z/coupe springs?

I'm done with this thread unless you can post something worth while that can benefit the group.

Thanks.
Why don't you do something about the clueless one. If anybody reports on a mod they're happy with, he immediately infers they're a liar -- even though he's never tried that mod. Why do you and the other moderators put up with it? Lots of very knowledgeable people have left driver because of his bs! I seldom post here because of him. In fact this is my last post on driver until he's gone!

This is true... however, people come here for information - Earl is right, if viable info is always downplayed with misguided half-truths then those looking for good information are swayed against worthy mods for no justified reason.

I can tell you from personal experience DaveO is very knowledgeable about the VQ – most of my mods are based on quality info I received from him and there hasn’t been anything on my car that has not improved the vehicle performance. I have no reason to believe the mod in this thread isn’t a worthwhile one for pre 04… For Dave B to poo poo without having tried it isn’t warranted. That’s what people get upset about

This thread is to discuss the efan conversion, not the behavior of members. If you guys want to bicker, or to discuss topics like pessimism, please do so in another thread.

it's a year old thread... it's doubtful that anything new (specific to the efan conversion itself) will be mentioned - it's already been posted. But it is important for someone considering the mod to be aware when certain members dismiss a particular mod. If a new G member buys a used G35 and looks up info out here, we shouldn’t sit idle and let them be misinformed.

I agree with OCG Trey. You need to stop backing DaveB for his crap he causes around here. Certain members like to bash mods and he is one of them. Members need to know so they are aware of them.

Mike and Russ: I said that if this therad gets taken off topic again, it will be locked. After I post this response, I will lock the thread.

I know you guys don't really care, it's an old thread after all. But I think a technical discussion is healthy. Too bad you guys don't agree.

And Russ, I'm not "taking Dave's side" here. He posted a bunch of technical questions, of which zero have been addressed. Personally, I happen to believe DaveO, and I'd bet this mod does make power. But that's not reason to go and bitch any time somebody has a contrary opinion.

I am interested in doing this conversion. Where are more info on this guys?
also can't i just buy an elecric dual fan out of newer g35s and make it work on my 03 and take off the clutch fan?
Does the Ac condenser fan only cools the AC radiator or what and when doe sit kick in, can i just wire the dual fan into the same outlet as the ac condenser fan and have them both turn on at the same time?

PM DaveO... depending on what part of SoCal you are you might want to see if he'll do it for you, or help you... it would be much cheaper than the quote you got - I certain of that!
