Not trying to start anything but...

I took my car to a paint shop this past week to get a paint scratch fixed and the mech. (which happens to be my good friends friend) said that my door had been repainted. I told him that my car only had 8 miles on it and i picked it up the day after it came in, but he said it didn't matter. My roomate told me that I should call Infiniti and they are obligated to buy back my car...is this true.

If so, it makes no difference as my car is sold, but I would like to know for future reference.

The following is only what I've been told. I cannot be 100% sure it is true, but it sounds reasonable:

Unfortunately, when our cars come in from overseas they go through many different careless hands on the boat, at the port, on trucks, etc...

Also equally as unfortunate, if there is any damage done to the vehicle that is less than 10% of the retail value of the vehicle (super grey area here), the auto manufacturer has the legal right to fix the automobile and NOT TELL the dealership or the new customer that there was ever any damage as long as they uphold the factory warranty on the repair.

My wife's Sequoia, to this day, has a small paint run on the inside of the drivers door (that looks to be overspray) . I noticed this about 2 weeks after taking ownership of the vehicle and brought it to the dealerships attention. At first they said it could be like that from the factory, but eventually said the door might have been damaged 'in transit'.

Odds are that when your car was at the port, where they install many of the items on your car to avoid paying import taxes, they damaged and then fixed your car before ever delivering it to the dealership.

And your roommate is full of it.

wow.... sounds like we need full disclosure laws like they use in real estate. Maybe that 600 delivery charge is to cover the repairs of the dents an dings inflicted on the car while in transit.

Neff that sounds right. I had to sign a disclosure when I bought my G. You bought your G from the same dealership so I'm sure you had to sign it as well.

A very similar thing happened to me. What you are saying is true. I was having a clear bra put on. After market other than the dealer install. When it was applied in the area of the poor quality paint job the clear bra was pulling on the paint. We had to remove the clear bra and it took the paint right off the front bumper where the spot painting was. It came off the rest of the bumper no problem.

I was a little upset . I had bought a new car not a repainted one!

The dealer (explained as neffester) said that this may have need damaged in port and the port would just fix the problem. The Dealer would not have any idea that it happened. They are allowed up to a certain dollar amount to fix without any notification.

The dealer did take good care of my front bumper and had it repainted properly. Lokey (JOHN) understood I was upset and took care of the problem.

what neff says sounds about right, i've heard of similar stories and 99% of the time the dealer has no clue that any damage was done to the vehicle before they got it.

I have seen new cars get delivered off the truck with swirl marks in certain areas that needed a little more attention or maybe had dirt in the paint or something. The manufacturer will do a touch up job if needed. The warranty will apply.
