Twin Turbo vs Supercharger
Re: Twin Turbo vs Supercharger
Can I copy a quote from one of your other threads?
"P.S. feel free to say this is the dumbest question ever I would understand. You see I am a teen looking at cars to buy, and teens can think of dumb questions."
Since you are still a teen, I'd suggest doing your homework before posting questions like these...
BTW - "the" TT and "the" SC aren't correct as there are multiple manufacturers of both types of FI with different advantages/disadvantages for each system.

some people on this forum are just a$$holes (hey_ya)! the poor kid didnt do a God damn thing to you. He asked a simple question hoping to get a nice answer from some people on this site. if you're not gonna help the kid out...then dont even bother! dont come on here and make fun of him for asking a question. you're not cool at all just to let u know...you're not just more of an a$$ than u were before! grow up. Now to answer your question MudoMonkey, they're both good from what i hear. You might be able to pump out a little more power from the TT's hence the fact you can play around a little with the PSI's. But, i'm not too smart about this particular subject. sorry bro.

This thread makes me wonder who are more mature: adults (Hey_Ya) or teens (MudoMonkey). As for the TT vs. SC, I wish i could tell you from experience!

Re: Twin Turbo vs Supercharger
It all depends what kind of setup your car is going to be used for. Both have their pros and cons to each of their own. If you want instant power go with the supercharger, but you get bad gas mileage. If you want good gas mileage go turbo, but the con is that you get turbo lag, but once you feel it kickin, wow, that is one great experience.
There is really not much hp difference between a twin turbo kit and supercharger, cuz it depends on what setup you get. Like size of turbo, how much boost are you running, the compression of your engine, upgraded internals, type of intercooler, etc. Just research and hopefully you will find the right kit that fits your budget. Good luck.

Re: Twin Turbo vs Supercharger
I'm not so sure about the gas mileage. I've heard a number of guys say they saw very little to no drop in mileage. I think those who say their mileage plummets are those that "test out" their new s/c all the time. If and when I get my s/c I think I will be one of those that gets sh!tty gas mileage.
TT's installed are upwards of $10k. You can get a supercharger installed for $5-6k. Power potential of a turbo is much greater because you can dial the boost way up.
In general you get more instant boost with a s/c. But some of the newer low pressure smaller turbos spool up early and fast giving virtually no lag. I've driven both types. Cars with big time lag (hate em) and ones that spool up fast (impressive).
As for the idiot early on in this thread...go post somewhere else if you have nothing constructive to say.

To Yngphllykd and Gman_Zman:
1. You guys are hilarious! I love it. First you talk your nonsense about me being an a$$ for my post (and bring God into it). Let's see, the original poster doesn't have a G and is already wanting to TT or SC... If that were my situation, I would try to do some research before asking such a general question. TT vs. SC has been discussed MANY times before on this board and many others.
2. My response was a direct quote from the original poster, (with comments) and a fact to direct him in the right direction (there are many systems available).
3. You both say I'm immature and an a$$ for not being "nice" and answering his question. And then you both proceed to say you don't really know the answer...hmm.
4. Have you noticed that no one who actually has a SC or TT have posted on this thread? That's probably because they don't want to waste their time with such general questions since they did their research and have more important things to do. If you look around a bit, I believe there's a member who went from NA to SC and is going to TT (the last I saw).
5. And lastly, who ever said I was an adult?

Hey_Ya, let's give MudoMonkey a break shall we. We were all new and excited with this stuff once right?
He was polite and had a simple question. Please reciprocate or just avoid the thread.

Re: Twin Turbo vs Supercharger
Well as I have a turbo car and have driven a SC but none on the G, they are the same on many cars..the SC produces power pretty quick but not as much as a TT but then again with the TT you need more upgrades to get that power and you need to understand how to adjust to keep the car from running lean under greater boost.
As a general observation....if you can't help anyone out with a question then don't post, no matter what age you are there is never a reason to be rude to anyone.

Re: Twin Turbo vs Supercharger
If you look closely, both of my previous posts have offered bits of information on the subject...I find humor in the idea that I'm rude/mean because I made a suggestion (research) but these childish replys about me are ok (a-hole, idiot, etc.). And whatever happened to letting someone speak for themselves? But enough of this thread, and to continue my tradition of providing useful information:

OK MUdo
Don't pay attention to some of the outbursts directed your way.... Enough said...
TT vs. SC - the $64K question? Well not really. It is much simpler than that IMO.
At this time, let me address just the very question you posed, in addition to the question of cost.
TTs do NOT cost upwards of $10K to install. Mine (PE TT) was done for $8408 installed, and this was for a kit that was ~$900 more expensive (but WILL be getting about a grand cheaper soon - can't say why yet) that the Greddy TT kit. So, a reputable and honest installer (I only know of/trust only one to be frank) can get a PE kit installed and tuned for you for about that much i'd say. Greddy will probably be about the same becasue of complexity of emanage. Some have quoted 30hr mechanical install + 10hr e-manage install, but these figures are sort of a rip off, the kind of quote that you will get at those **** organizations such as SP Engineering and the like.
The $5K installed price most likely does NOT include the tuning that is necessary (and neither does the $8408 above, but the TechnoSquare tuning is a matter of just buying the TS reflash appropriate for your boost level - a flat $500-595/flash depending on the car).
As far as the main differences b/w the two FI routes are concerned, here they are en brief (I hope I succeed in putting away my bias for a sec
:
1) Fuel economy - in an fair, "apples-to-apples" comparison (adversely affected in SC apps).
2) Power (b/w 35-50 hp greater for a given boost level in TTs vs. SCs)
3) Cost (TTs about $2500-3000 more)
4) Flexibility (amount of boost can be controlled with a push of a button, while SCs require a pulley change).
5) Potential (TTs deliver a potential of upwards of 18-20psi - if a motor is customized/built up for it, while SCs top out at ~10 psi)
6) Reliability (SC/blowers are more complex in design than turbos, but turbos retain VERY high heat levels. "As a rule", SCs are more reliable; but IMO, amongst well designed turbo vs SC kits, the difference in reliability is "a wash", a non-issue). Turbos may (and WILL if you do really serious tracking) need/require a cooling system upgrade (a bigger radiator - ~$500).
This of course doesn't cover "all" that there is to it. I'd like to recommend you read some good articles around the web (google it). Some good places to start: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm
