Vortech...belt always slippin...

Ever since I got this system, during both tunes, the belt was loose and slipped, creating less boost. Are there any toothed belt/pulley option for this system so I'm not constantly under the car tightening the belt? Also, do you guys know how tight the belt should be? How much travel should the belt have up and down? I don't want to bend the jack shaft.

It's a constant pain in the ***, which is leading me to getting rid of it altogether.

Re: Vortech...belt always slippin...

no kidding...do you know if Vortech has a toothed kit available? This HAS to be happening to all of their kits...there's nothing special about G's. It doesn't bother me enough to want to get rid of it but it does suck! BTW, if you do decide to go to that extreme, let me know...I might be interested in your pillars/gauges!

Have you replaced your main Serpentine belt yet with a slightly shorter aftermarket belt?

Re: Vortech...belt always slippin...

Found the info we need:

If you want to just change your idler pulley (won't change boost at all), you can buy this item at pretty much any auto store: Dayco #89001

Or, if you want to change your belt to a 1/2 inch shorter belt, you can also find the following belt at pretty much any auto store: Goodyear #4060930

Good luck and KEEP that system!

By the way, the idler pulley is a 1/2 inch smaller in diameter. If they are close to the same price, I'd go with the pully...easier job.

i bought a Gates belt when i changed pulleys, i adjusted it after about 1 week because it stretched a little, and thats been about 2 months now, and no more slip at all, ive heard that Gates dont stretch, mine doesnt.

Re: Vortech...belt always slippin...

Get the Gates belt . Tig488 is right . After the first adjustment I havent adjusted since .The belt is thicker and I think it actually gets tighter after it warms up . To check if its tight enough...go to the longest open length of belt , It should be tight enough to only move .4 of an inch , as Vortech suggests . Thats .4 of an inch either way , up or down , and it should be HARD to turn it 90 degree's

Couldnt afford it when young...gonna play when Im old

1/2 inch if you pull the belt with just your pinky. If you want to get real presice they do have belt tension gauges.
