+4k on my vortech.

Only regret is that I waited until the car had 11k on it before installing it.

regret? yes. nothing worse than belt squeal, belt dust, and linear power w/ no torque. That snail belongs on a big V8.

Converting to twins was the best thing I ever did...

good advice from someone who has seen both worlds. my take is that s/c provides better streetability in terms of maintenance. troubleshoot a s/c and you are basically looking at the belts and supercharger and piping. turboes pose a major headache in terms of troubleshooting. has anyone tried troubleshooting a turbo system? PITA! leaks from cracks in the manifold or piping, or from a gasket can lead to poor performance. you go thru alot of disassembling and detective work to find out all u needed to replace was a vacuum line. if u plan on wrenching away alot on your car, turbo may be a good option, especially if you want the gobs of power and torque which comes in handy on a 3600lb car. dont get me wrong, i think turboes outperform s/c, but at the price of higher maintenance and headaches. good luck with your choice!

I only had squeal once, and adjusted it accordingly. Dust is a bit of a bugger as it seems to go right onto the k&n filter and blacken one side of it quite quickly. You will have to remove and wash the filter more often because of this.

I see your point about performance, but your comment about hihg maintenance and headaches is simply NOT true. First of all, the whine of the SFC unit itself will give many people a headache, literally, in a very short period of time uintil you hopefully develop a tolerance for it. Maintenance... what exactly can you tell me is the hihger maintenance of the turbos, espcially well designed ones? If anything, teh Vortech with the belt/dust issues, although minor, represent the higher maintenance. You don't even need to change your oil use interval if oy use the correct oil. Turbos are inherently simpler units then superchargers; the former has only one moving part...the shaft, with an impeller on one end, and a turbine on the other, period. Granted , the tolerances for building them are very tight, but that's why we have companies like Garrett and IHI that make superior turbos with veryy very long lives. Think of the number of moving parts in a supercharger, that has many mnay gears to, crudely put, translate the max 6500rpm of engine rotation to around 60000rpm impeller rotations.

Whoever is considering buying any FI unit, please do all the research. I don't mean to pick at profile's or anyone else's posts here, just to keep the facts straight.

I had more problems with the vortech system than you can imagine.. Pulleys squealing, cog pulley breaking off of the blower, belts breaking, oil leaks from the return line, and just the intolerable noises the s/c and wannabe BOV makes is enough to drive anyone crazy..

Before you go and blame it on the installer, mine was done BY VORTECH.

So how did you decide on the Vortech over a Single Turbo system? What sold you on it?

Still sounds like a very bad install . Might of been a trainee that did the install . Belts squeal...tighten it ---- Cog pulley broke off...defective or bad install ---- Belts breaking.....again defective or bad install ---- Oil leaks....for sure , bad install ---- S/C noises...usually cog belt to tight. ---- And its a Bypass BOV , it whistles because its open all the time unless its under boost...easily quited with a filter and turned a 180 degree's
