APS Single Turbo For Auto
hey everyone, im planning on getting an APS Single Turbo this week. Sad thing is I drive an auto =\. does anyone know if i have to do anything else for the turbo to work and run properly on my car???
I doubt putting a turbocharger on is as simple as changing out a 40 watt bulb for a 100 watt bulb, and waiting for the brighter light. This will generate a significant stress on the motor that will probably have to be adjusted through the car's computer. I may not be a physics whizz, but it would seem logical that if you are going to increase the air inflow, you'd think you should free up the outflow. I think if you are gonna spend $4-6 k on the turbo, just spend the extra $2-3 k on the exhaust. Then, of course, you need to beef up the suspension, wheels and brakes to handle the extra power. That's another $8-10 k. Hey, why not just buy a new Z06 Vette, get a sure collector's item, and blow away any of the other super modified G's on this forum!

APS is currently working on the ST for an auto. They have posted about selling an upgraded valve body. SGP will be selling one soon as well. You will need this for better shifting.
I've been having fun with them and I'm only at 10.5psi. I put down 430hp and 474tq on a very rough tune. Gman could put a hurting on most of them. Most Z06's put down 360-375whp stock.

are you having any cooling issues? I was overheating yesterday and took the car to the dealer to get the cooling systme purged and they found out I had a hole in the radiator. I just ordered a PE radiator. Also I am getting a custom 3" dual exhaust made on Tuesday. These two mods should take car of the heat issues. Before the radiator had the hole I was not overheating but my exhaust was very restrictive and trapping heat in the block.

Yep sure am. I am bypassing the heater core and the throttle body because I got tired of burping the system so often. Hopefully my breather tank will come in soon. I haven't even put the Koyo in yet. That is why I haven't turned up the boost any. What radiator were you using?(the one with the hole in it that you were using)
Also, I drive on Drag Radials. This is almost a must. I can't even get 285 street tires to hook up but the DR's just catch and go.

sidebar question... Alan, would you recommend bypassing the TB with lower power output FI applications like the one I'm running? My Crawford Headers generate so much heat that I'm not sure if this would really help me any...
Main poster... I'd strongly recommend looking into a tranny cooler and a valve body upgrade (not stillen or level 10) at a minimum . With these 2 mods you'd probably be ok for a ST application (although some would recommend a higher stall torque converter to help you launch your car better from a dead stop). The stock breaks should be fine but you might want a wider rear tire to help put the power to the ground.

I did this thinking this is where some of the airlock was accumulating but it wound up being the heater core(bastards at Nissan suck!). This made my upper intake plenum much cooler. It only heated up after long periods on the road. So yes I think it will help some. I totally capped off the lines. With some high temp coolant hose caps and fastened them with the nissan clamps.

With DR's they run around 11.8. That isn't much of a problem for the built TT G's as long as they get a 1.8 60ft or better. I have DR's so....
