If I am planning on going FI which is better 04 6mt or 05 6mt? I would rather by a brand new 05 6MT, but I have noticed people speak of changes between the 05 and 04, how would these changes affect my plans?I want to use the Greddy kit, will it still work with the 05? What do we know about the 05 ECU, how does it respond to piggyback systems, is there Long term Fuel trim in the 05 ECU? Can you swap or flash an 05 ECU for an earlier version. The other mods like rods and cams and heads, will these also work on the 05? What motor is better to build the 05 the 04 or are they the same?
05 has the upgraded rod bolts I believe. Also has the revup, high rev whatever you call it valve timing. Get a turbo or twins and an engine control unit and make some big power.
Yeah, but do the kits available now work for the 05? Plus how does the factory ECU do with piggyback systems? And I know that some people have talked about the JWT cams not working in the 05, what about other aftermarket internal parts?
I think it may be worth it just to get an 04 since I plan on upgradeing the cams and rods anyway and it would be less trouble to make parts that are already out to work with it. Unless the parts will work fine with an 05. Besides the advance in horsepower and higher Redline, what are the advances of the 05? Becuase you can up the redline with an ECU reflash on an 04, plus add a set of JWT cams, which are probally stronger than the RevUp cams, but I don't know if they are. Since I already plan on reall y building the motor, I'm not sure if it is worht the trouble of trying to make it work with an 05.

If you want FI right now get the 04. Its all pretty much well developed.
If you can wait a year or so for development to progress on the new engine get the REVUP.

^^^ I hope you're wrong ^^^ On my350z.com a heavily modified 350z with a Vortech S/C and a 3.12 pulley is putting down ~450rwhp. I'm watching this car VERY CLOSELY.
(BTW, we use the same tuner...)

It's our rods that are weak not the rod bolts. If people were spinning bearings I would say go with an 05 but because you get the Brembos and the power difference is minimal when going FI, I say get the 04 and save your money because you're going to need it.
Since I plan on extensivly rebuilding the motor anyway, I agree and think the 04 is th best way to go. I plan on putting in new pistons, cams, rods, and heads, I am also thinking about going ahead and having the motor blueprinted and balanced and sleeved. What else do you guys suggest?
If you are puting that much money into it then you should definitely get it balanced and blueprinted. Do some searching and you will find that not all sleeving is created equal. Good luck and keep us posted.

Linear torque at a higher rpms IMO is the safer way to go on a stock bottom end, that's why TN recommends not exceeding 400rwhp on stock internals. This forces the torque to be ~355lb-ft at the wheels (which somes on rather abruptly). A tuned Vortech should be able to handle more torque than that since you're not using it as often and since it doesn't come on as fast. The trick is finding more torque with the Vortech...
