How LITTLE did you spend to go FI?
Ok,
This is a reverse angle thread if you will. Looking for those, cost conscious, value minded, penny pinchers that found the best deal, getting the most horsepower for the least amount of $$$. This includes labor costs, so add it in.
Post your car 5AT or 6MT, kit, hp, $$$, and for all us lazy people, just put in your hp/$ ratio.
If you want to be extra helpful, let us know who hooked you up or links for good deals.
PS> If you had a "bad" outcome, might wanna mention that too...
(yes this is my rationalize going FI support thread
)
At the end of this thread, someone's gonna get a "best value" award and someone else is gonna get a "cheap as hell" award.

You have to be careful when you start talking about how much people spent on FI. This sort of topic is better discussed in PMs with people who feel they meet you criteria. It's just one of those things, out of respect to everyone you don't start spouting off how much your supercharger set you back or you ST kit. Even if you got a great deal on it people may not want to run their mouths about the $4000 to $6000 they spent to go FI cuz a lot of people wish they had that kind of money to throw around for an FI kit. I like the idea and if it is for your own personal research into buying a kit it is a noble cause but i may not ask people to "Post up" how much they spent, maybe ask them to PM you if they would like to discuss it.
Just my .02 cents
Just my .02 cents
I can understand your concerns - the question wasn't asked to get people to boast about what they did or didn't spend. And I don't intend to offend any sponsor. Anything anyone doesn't want to post is cool!
Let me clarify: I think the point of this thread is to identify what's a reasonable minimum investment required to go FI and the best way to go about it. After you do enough research, you realize you can drop $40k into a car - for what? added safety? that extra 100 or 200 hp at peak? I'm trying to find the "sweet spot" for myself and help others who might be interested.
PM's just can't do that...
So those of you with experience have an opportunity to help out those thinking about going FI. Looking strictly at the value proposition, let's get some numbers and see how things fall...

this has the potential to be one of the most useful threads on the board, possibly even a sticky! I don't think giving this kind of info will be perceived as "disrespectful." Most people that can afford a g35 aren't going to judge someone for having an extra 10 or 20K of disposable income. so take it for what it's worth, these are luxury cars, and the mods are but a percentage of the overall cost, and taking into account the anonimity of the internet, this should be a very safe place to post this information.

In all seriousness, at the end I'd like to get a plot together of HP vs $ and plot peoples cars on this grid. It'll be a great resource given the number of options popping up.
And I would welcome sponsors to chime in. Not trying to start nickel and dime wars or anything, just round it UP to the nearest 500 bucks so that everyone has an idea of the ballpark figure. (But please do not give the HP # for a turbo system with a dual exhaust IF you don't include the cost of the dual exhaust).

No, please don't bow out. Every point on the curve only makes the curve that much better! (I was just kidding about the "best value" and cheap @ss award!).
How's this for a simple, easy format:
5AT or 6MT, Coupe/Sedan, Kit, HP, Torque, Total $, (and if you want, the shop)

Well...you twisted my arm and despite your best efforts have made me curious to see this if it actually comes together:
1)HyperliteSMU - 2004 6MT, Greddy TT, 415 rwhp @8 psi, ~$16,000
1)HyperliteSMU - 2004 6MT, Greddy TT, 415 rwhp @8 psi, ~$16,000

Thanks! If you can add in torque that would be cool. I'm gonna bump this thread for 2 wks and at the end put together a graph and post it. We'll see how it goes.
