Doing this also cuts down the cost associated with new parts and the like. So IMHO there is a 99% chance you will see a GTR variant in sedan clothing with an Infiniti badge

past enthusiasts would be bothered, sure... but it could bring in a whole new market segment, and boost the performance to meet higher standards of performance and handling, while combining safety and efficiency.
i.e. corvette : metallica -
'50s - 70's vette's : kill 'em all - master of puppets (it defined them and made them what they are today)
c5 & c6 : justice for all - black album (perhaps load) - became the popular standard of the times
anything awd /or mid-engined : reloaded - whatever current sh*t they pass of as music nowadays... (is good for a newer generation that the older ones cannot relate to, but are no longer required for sales)

Plus the car would increase in price...further decreasing what makes a Corvette...a Corvette.
If I could buy an R8 or a Vette given they both cost the same...I'm sorry, I'd get an R8.
Alienating your core consumer base rarely (if ever) ends well. Especially with a car with as long a hertiage as a Corvette. Hell the car hasn't even ditched it's leaf springs yet (although for leaf springs, they're pretty advanced in design).

Correct me if im wrong but havent they scratched the idea of the mid engine vette now because of MPG regulations and GM trying to faze out big V8s in favor of their v6s. Not to mention GM is only making 5 bill a year not really enough to pour into the R&D to redefine their flagship sports car

Nissan/Infiniti can definitely use a Mid-engined sports car in its lineup especially when Lexus releases the LF-A and Acura releases the next generation NSX.
Time to bring back the Mid4 concept
For those non-nissan heads, the MID4 was supposed to be a Mid-engined All wheel drive sports car powered by a 3.0 Liter V6. the first concept was introduced in 1985 and was later revised in 1987. But they were too expensive to mass produce so the concept was scrapped
It would definitely be nice to see the MID4 make its comeback as an INFINITI
but then again i'm just dreaming

successor of the bnr34? Not a bad idea... could only imagine a hot milf driving in a 4-door grabbing some milk for the kids n be back home before it gets hot.. haha but back to subject, designing a car that will outperform the gt-r would be contradicting your self. People are into gas saving gas now a days, there's a small of people out there that would rather choose power vs 30+mpg. I'm not saying it won't sell but not worth dumping a whole lots of cash into making just right after releasing the gt-R.
