Entire Infiniti Lineup will be Hybridized
If you like hybrids, we've got news from Nissan's luxury brand that will have you all hot and bothered: according to Infiniti's head of advanced product planning, Francois Bancon, every Infiniti model will become a hybrid within ten years.
The transformation of Infiniti will start next year, when a version of the M sedan debuts with a gas-electric hybrid powertrain. The new M hybrid will debut in the U.S. in September, and since the M is based on the same platform as the Infiniti G coupe and sedan, it's not a stretch to assume that hybrid G's aren't that far behind in the product pipeline.
Nissan also unveiled its Infiniti Essence concept at the Geneva motor show, a sexy hybrid coupe, as well as the Nissan Qazana crossover concept.

Mr. Bancon said the primary technology that will be used by Infiniti in the near term is the so-called series-parallel configuration, which combines characteristics of both series and parallel drivetrains. The “two-mode” technology enables the car to be powered by electricity alone or electricity and gas at the same time.
Initially, it’s Infiniti will offer both hybrid and regular gasoline versions of its cars, but Bancon’s remarks seem to suggest the company will stop offering gas-only vehicles somewhere within the ten-year timeframe.
Bancon did not indicate if or when Infiniti will transition to plug-in hybrid technology, but we’d be very surprised if the capability didn’t show up within the next few years. Although the new M won’t be a plug-in hybrid, we’re betting Infiniti’s second generation of hybrids will.

Doesn't a ten year time frame seem kind of long? I'd hope within ten year frame we'd be on our way to producing an engine that is far more of a tree hugger than even the gas-electric hybrid.

I doubt that. The alternatives aren't necessarily better... I'm expecting to see hybrids or electric cars with more power and better practicality though...
For sure...technology advances quickly though so I'm sure that'll happen sooner rather than later.
seriously i'm so glad nissan isn't making hybrids look like the prius and the insight
Automatic transmissions are so good now that the clutch pedal is only there for sport. And plus, electric cars like the Tesla only have one gear... there's no need for a third pedal...
