infiniti should have a recall on this issue. it is better for them to fess up now instead of having to replace everyone's engines in the long run. most likely it has to do with gaskets or something of that nature. my 2006 6mt coupe started making a couple noises last week. i called my mechanic so he can do a regularly scheduled oil change. when he was done, he told me that only 2 quarts came out. this was after 5000 miles driven on synthetic. i have a total of 11,300 on my coupe, and i find it totally unacceptable on a brand new car that i spent so much money on. i usually drive granny style, but i like to punch it once in a while. nothing extreme though.

Damn Hector. That sucks ***. Id tell em you want a new car. With that low of mileage, Id be so pissed. Of course, I have pretty low mileage too, only 10600 in 11 months. Unacceptable. My car will go back next week some time

^^^Hey, Extreme...
Just a thought on your situation heading to LA.

Go to your Dealer and have them check your mileage and top you off with oil before you go.
That way your at the full mark before you do your LA thing and won't screw up your oil test with them by adding oil yourself on your trip.
That way you won't be stressing about it on your trip with you lady.
SD to LA back to SD shouldn't be more than a 1000 mi. and shouldn't drop more than a quart.

I know it's a PITA, but this whole oil issue is a PITFA.

G/L and have a good trip.

Good call! Didnt think about that. My dealer is on the way up there too. Its only 15 mins north of my house. LA->SD->LA is about 300 miles. I should be plenty fine...although its only been 400 miles since my oil change and my oil is already noticeably low.

Great idea tho, thank you.

It does suck a$$ big time!! I'm gonna go to the dealer on Tuesday and sit there and discuss this thouroughly with the service guy. I really like this car and the way it is set up so I don't really want a new car, I just want them to fix this problem. BUT, if they give me any **** at all over this, believe me, I WILL push for a new car. There is no way they can claim any kind of negligence due to missed oil changes or whatever because this is the first scheduled oil change. I am concerned about possible engine damage already so I will definitely be pushing for a new engine at the very least unless they tear down the engine and fix the problem and prove to me that the engine is fine. BTW, I just put one more quart of oil in the G to top it off. That's 4 quarts total @ just over 3800 miles . . . .

just checked my oil, 15,500 miles. 2K since my last oil change (mobil 1 synthetic), and level is just below full. Didn't notice a problem with my last 05 G35X either (15K miles). will keep an eye out for it, as well as probably switch to castrol syntec from here on out. this oil burning problem really sucks! especially since it seems to be hitting people at different mileage. Any other G35X owners affected? Kash

Please don't flame this post, but I guess I'm just not that good at reading the oil level on the dipstick. After around 1500 miles, it "looks" like the oil level's at about 4/5th's between the high and low lines. What does this mean? How many quarts low am I?

And when I say "looks", I'm not sure if I'm reading it properly. The oil's dark at the bottom and sort of fades out towards the top. It actually looks like there might be some clear oil all the way to the top line, but I'm not sure. If anyone can post a picture explaining how to read the stick properly with dirty oil, that'd be much appreciated. Also, I checked my car after letting it sit overnight.

I'd like to B!tch slap the engineer that designed that dip stick! As long as the "dirty" oil lies between the upper and lower marks you are OK. At the "add" mark you are one quart low. If you are 4/5 of the way up from the "add" mark, you are in great shape.

Remember, always check your oil on a level surface and wait at least 3 to 5 minutes before checking. Pull the stick, wipe it off with a clean towel and re-insert it all the way to check it.

Haha....that's what I said many replies ago.
Think I'm dreaming...tho that would make me real happy, you too I'm sure.
Dang Hex...4quarts now
Think you're definitely more than 1qt/1000mi.
New engine bro...should be no question about that with the Dealer.

Well, we'll see. Dealers are so hit and miss. Sometimes they are cool and other times, it's like pulling teeth. But yeah, I think I am exceeding that 1qt/1000 miles magic number.

I still cannot read the damn dip stick. It really is a terrible design, even to remove and reinsert it. How the hell do you read it properly? It also "looks" to be wet all the way to the high mark but I am not sure. Yes I remove ane wipe it before I reinsert it. I guess it would be bone dry if low?
