I know this thread hasn't been updated in awhile but I have an 04 g35 coupe manual with 90,000 miles and have the OC problem. Burning 4 quarts every 3000 miles. bought the car in june off private seller. I usually just add an quart every 1000 miles until my next oil change since our dipsticks are so hard to read lol. Any suggestions on what type of oil to use and what about this TBS from the dealer? what are the chances of getting a replacement engine from the dealer lol. Im using 5w-30 syn mobile 1. thanks for any info.

When I had my previous 06 G35 6 sp sedan I sometimes burned a quart every 1000 miles
I used the cheapest 5w -30 oil that I could find on sale usually at Pep Boys, I traded it in at 171796 miles. I checked my oil once a week. I never qualified for a new engine with the OC test at the dealer while under warranty,

Are you sure it's OC & not a leak? I have an 04 losing oil and it's my valve cover. It's leaking next to the spark plugs.

I doubt there's any way he could be losing 4qts/1k miles thru a valve cover.

No there's no leaks my mechanic checked it out, I would notice a leak with the amount of oil gone when I do oil changes

It does not leak outside. It leaks into the engine.
But I guess if you're losing that much I doubt it. But doesn't hurt to check.

I had my '04 VQ35DE replaced at 60k miles due to OC issues however it was still under the extended 6yr/70kmi power-train warranty. Normal oil OC for our cars is 1qt per 3,500mi oil change. You might be able to work with the dealer - it's worth a try? I think you may have too many miles though. I would not run a costly synthetic oil if you are buring that much oil, rather, use a synthetic blend (which most of today's oils are) 5/30.

Yeah I was going to call up my local dealership and give a try to see what they due, a TSB they're suppose to fix it if your car has all the problems presented in the TSB so I don't know. but thanks for the advice. and should I use a thicker oil than 5w-30?

try adding Lucus oil stabilizer and see if it helps?
i had a similar problem wit a bmw i had once and it was a scratched sleeve inside. although i used to have missfire under higher RPM and the car used to let out a puff of smoke when i left off after heavy peddle in high gears.
good luck

Mine has 130K now and is starting to use a bit. Looks like about 1 1/2" quarts per 7500 miles (not bad). I just changed the oil and change brand from M-1 5-30 to Quaker State 10-40 conventional to see if it changes any. I'll keep you posted.

New to Infiniti so noob question coming up. From the bit Ive been reading OC is only on the rev-up engines? Or is it common on all of them. I see most of yall drive MT cars. Currently looking at some 06 G35x so doing some research before I dive into anything. I know how the car been maintained plays a big role in all of this.
