Update ..
Went to the dealer two weeks ago.. 1.4Quarts after 1000 miles.
The dealer said it has to be brought in 3 times before they replace the engine..
We'll just have to wait and see..
Keep in mind, for all who have this problem, that you will need to assure they replace the entire engine, heads and all, and your entire exhaust... You don't want a clogged up Cat or muffler.. You'll also want to ensure all of the O2 sensors get replaced as they can wear prematurely as a result of the oil saturation.

I have been following this thread and very very glad to find this forum.I was very suprise about this issue and thought my car was the only one experiencing this issue.
I have an 06 with a 6spdMT that is also burning oil. I never knew about the issue until I did my own oil change and was tripping when a very low amount of oil came out. I didn't pay attention about it too much until 3000 miles later right before I was ready to do another oil change the car starts sounding like a lawn mower and the oil light on the gauge cluster came on blinking then an engine check light came on. My son even starts calling it the lawnmower. When I checked the dipstick the day after, it was bone dry. I had to put couple of quarts then the loud noise went away but I still brought it to the dealer because of that cranking noise on the transmission when you shut the engine off.
When I got to the dealer I told them about the issue and suprisingly they recommend and know about an oil consumption test. I told them that the car is burning oil and being that it only has 7500 miles. The service rep said it was normal for this car to burn 1qt/1000miles but I was like a new car thats B/S.After waiting for an hour he told me that car only had 2qts, no crap thats the oil that I added.Even the mechanic that checked the car agreed. So I told them that I only know off two things how you looses oil either from your valve guide seal or the piston ring is bad. I also told them that my exhaust tip is turning black which I think is from that oil being burned and spitted out the xhaust.
I am now on the oil consumption test and I very glad I found this site and pretty much know now what is the real deal and what to tell the dealer because when I asked the mechanic and service rep "What If" the car is burning more that 1qt/1000miles "What then??" they did not give me an answer. After reading everybody else's I think I want a new LongBlock motor. Anyone ever been or heard of Cerritos Infiniti???
My bad for the long thread just wanna share my experience..

Voltes-5, you definitely need a new engine. Knowledge is power my friend. Don't settle for anything less than a long block. Once they know that you are aware of this problem and it is not just your G, they will more than likely just replace your engine without any problems. Just do exactly as they say for the oil consumption test and make sure you get every step documented. Good luck.

Katherine is only the Customer Service Manager. Skip her. Rick Varni is the Service Manager. Skip him, he is a lying bastard. Go directly to Robert Rogers, the Service Director. He is brand new since the old Service Director (who was also a lying bastard) was fired the weekend of the Sacramento Auto Show. I don't know if Robert is any good, but he is the first person that has actually shown any concern since we bought the car. He has given us better service than anyone else over the last 18 months. Remember-Katherine knows nothing and Rick is a lying bastard.

So true Hex. That's why this forum is so powerful with knowledge. When I went to my Dealer a long while back with my issue, I listened to their take on it and was waiting for the lies and BS. Fortunately, they didn't BS me, but if they did, I could call them on their chit due to the knowledge gained here.
Example: They told me about the 1qt/1000mi threshold and knew this was a problem in some VQ's, which I already knew about due to Driver.

They also told me about the high vacuum thing over 3000 rpm until she breaks in around 10-15K. That one was a wait and see. Sure enough was true, as that turned out to be my case and the 'oil catch can' thread here supported that theory.

Perhaps this is why Nissan/Infiniti made the oil consumption threshold at 1000mi/qt. Worse than that, then the VQ has a definite problem and it's oil consumption is not from high vacuum during break-in, but instead bad rings.

Like Hex said, knowledge is power.
Gawd...I love this forum for that reason.

Quick question - those of you who had engine replaced... what was your argument to get the entire engine instead of just the short block?

(besides... "oh, it's a brand new car, so I better get everything replaced")

Andrew-I am almost to 1000 miles so I anticipate going back to the dealer sometime next week. I am easily over a quart low again.

NorCalGRide-What I told the QC guy at my dealer is that I am afraid that when the engine started making noises when it was 2 1/2 quarts low that damage may have been done to the valvetrain. For this reason, I want a long block. He didn't argue with me but we will see what Infiniti says.

Looks like its time for a new engine Hector. Keep us updated. Hopefully we'll see you on the 10th.

NorcalGride, I had my entire engine replaced which was the dealers choice. Thankfully they chose to replace the whole block as they did not want to do all the labor to tear it apart and only replace half of it. If Infiniti was not willing to replace the long block, I would have been all over them about it. Just say you do not feel comfortable driving your car if only the short block is replaced. Tell them that you are afraid engine damage could have occurred and the only way youll accept the car back with a short block replacement is if they tear the engine apart and show you that there is no damage done. That'll get em

2 1/2 quarts low and you're complaining??!!.. :P
my wife had my car up in Nashville and noticed a tapping noise on her way home.
I took my daughter to daycare and noticed something too.. then my oil light came on.
I had it towed to the dealer and found out I only had 2 CUPS of oil left.. that's about a 1/2 Quart of oil.!!!..
I'm 1.4 quarts down in 1000miles! HOLY POS!!

I've called my dealer and left a message about my oil consumption. I'll see what happens tomorrow when I call them back.

I am in the EXACT same prediciment.
I actually am thinking of just having them give me my money back. I really dont want a car that has to have re-issued motor V.I.N and possibly the issues of trying to re-sell it.

I am just really frustrated on this whole issue.

Question: how often do you change oil? I thought the first time should be at 3k, and then every 5k going forward but i heard somewhere that i have to do the first one at 1k.
Also is it true that the engine consumes oil extraordinarily on 6MT G's knowing that i down-shift most of the time to slow car down.

Thanks,

Voltes5, were you able to determine that the tranny noise when shutting the engine off was related to the oil? My car makes noises when shutting off the engine too.

according to the dealer the noise coming from transmission on 6MT's is normal since it's "high performance" tranny.
