After a little research and a call to Pat Goss (automotive guru and host of Goss’s Garage on 106.7 JFK) I found out that a percentage of our cars have problems with their piston rings. He told me that Nissan refuses to admit the problem and that I should be looking for a new engine.
At least I have only 15,000 miles and the warranty should apply. Let’s hope that Infiniti owns up to this problem and does not give me any s$#* for the MREV. There may be some of you out there with the same problem who (like me) can’t get a good reading because of that damn dipstick. Make sure you get this problem on record before your warranty period runs out.

I have posted extensively on this subject on my350z.com. Prior to my G35C, I had a 350Z that required an engine replacement. I changed my oil at 1200 miles at the end of the break in point and noticed that there wasn't much oil in the car. Then at 3000 miles I noticed the same thing, only about 3 quarts of oil came out. I took it to the Nissan dealer and they thought I was crazy, and blamed me for not puting in enough oil. I brought the car back at 5000 miles and showed them that the car was again nearly empty (oil) and they still said it was my fault since I performed my own oil change. So, they performed an oil consumption test. By 8000 miles the car had nearly lost 5 quarts of oil (from the 5000 mile 5 quart fill up) despite no evidence of oil burning or leaking. The called Nissan North America who instructed the dealer to immediately pull my motor out, send it back to Nissan for inspection, and replace the engine with a brand new one. After that, the new engine was fine, but I still got rid of the Z. I tried to get Nissan to buy back the car but they refused. I ended up getting the G35 and haven't had any problems since. A little research showed that several other owners had the same problem. It's not common, but it does happen.

Heard back from the dealer, Infiniti said they wanna continue on with the oil consumption test for 2 thousand more miles. In other words, I will have to bring it in twice more after 1000 miles. If it continues to consume oil after that span of time, I will get a new engine.
So I guess I am not done yet.
Oh yeah and let me just mention that the service manager at Infiniti of Glendale, Manny, is a complete D1CK!!!!
Everyone there has been very helpful until I spoke with him today. He was not willing to help at all and was trying to get me off of the phone more than trying to help me. All I wanted was an update on what was going on and he wasn't willing to help me at all. All he said was, I don't know anything about this situation, call back on Monday. I was like, you are the manager, can't you just find out what is going on and let me know? It's not like I am asking you to resolve the situation this second. I just wanna know if Infiniti has been contacted and what they said. He just kept repeating, call back Monday and talk to Reuben, I know nothing of this situation. And he had the most unbelievable attitude ever!!
If he had been nice about it and said, hey I'm really sorry but your service rep Reuben is out til Monday. Because I don't know the details about this, can you just call him back Monday? Then I would have been like oh okay no problem. I hope I never have to deal with this a$$clown ever again.
Luckily the QC guy David did call me back and informed me that we need to continue the oil consumption test. Sorry for the rant but this Manny jacka$$ really pissed me off!!

Bummer Hexx. Atleast youll have your car in the mean time. Just drive the **** out of it and do what I told you to do; check your oil 20 times multiple times a day ha. Im so anxious to get mine back. I hope nothing goes wrong...
O trust me, I know what you mean. Tomorrow, 5:30PM is the expected completion time. I better get it back tomorrow night and it better be dirty as a mother and my wheels better be scratch/rash free. Ive got my Wednesday wide open to spend the day cleaning my car...and driving it of course

I'm jealous bro. I have so many plans that are on hold for now until after I get my new engine. Hopefully everything goes smoothly with your ride extreme. Keep us updated.
Just sose yous know....
Just had my oil changed. 37,000 mile, 8,500 mile on this last change. Used about a half a pint of oil in than 8,500 miles. I have a 2005 MT6 Sedan. Never has used much oil. I broke it in hard from the first day. Drove 90-100 MPH all the way back from San Antonio. It had 25 miles on it when I got it. I waited till 10,000 miles to switch to M1 and it works fine.
Make me wonder how we can have such discrepancies in usage.

Im having second thoughts about the whole break-in process. Ive heard of numerous people red-lining it off the lot and not having any problems. I baby'd my car for 1100 miles and look where it got me. I just hope I get it back tomorrow..
I am supposed to get it back today by 5:30PM. I woke up and called this morning to confirm that, turns out the main service advisor I was working with no longer works there! But, the good news is that the Service Manager is taking over for him. Im waiting for a call back from him to check the status of my car.

Nope. I baby'd the car for the first 1100 miles and after those 1100 miles I worked me way up to the redline. Moving onto 5K for a few days, then 5.5K, then 6, and so on. What a waste but knowing me, Ill baby it for atleast the first 500 miles.
The service manager returned my call, turns out the technician never started on it last Friday. They wanted to make sure he finished all the other cars he was working on before starting on mine. That way, he can work on my car and only my car from start to finish. They started this morning, I wont get the car back until Tuesday night or Wednesday afternoon. One more day...
