Factory warranty in force = Infiniti dealership will honor regardless where/whom purchased from.

Is this a problem to a large percentage of the cars or is it just bad luck for those few unlucky individuals in this thread?

How would I check if the car does not have this OC problem prior to buying one?
As far as I'm concerned its OK to have an OC burner just check your oil weekly and or bi-weekly and top up if needed.

If the oil is getting past the rings it is going somewhere, and that somewhere is out the exhaust.

Not good for the car, not good for the cats, and not good for the environment.

That's too much maintenance for my taste.

I have no choice my car is out of warranty for a replacement engine. I purchased it with just over 100,000km and didn't know it was an OC till a few weeks ago. The cost of a replacement engine out of my pocket would be ridiculous.

You could run into emmisions issues. If it's ring blowby, parts costs would probably be minimal, but the engine will probably have to be pulled. I'd bet the rest of the short block would be fine as long as there's no oil starvation damage. If the damage is more extensive, you could look into a japanese crate engine. When I was 17, my '74 celicas' 18RC spun a rod bearing. I couldn't afford a shop rebuild, so I bought a Haynes manual and rented an engine hoist-did the short block myself. Car ran great for a couple of years, right up until my crazy girlfriend totaled it. I've done a few rebuilds, and no doubt cars used to be easier to work on. Newer cars just have more crap in the way. Still, you need tools and and place to do it. Once when I lived in an apartment in college, I rented a storage unit to pull a motor-where there's a will, there's a way. Good luck, dude-I hope she passes the sniff test. What was the warranty BTW? 4/60?

Yeah I had the Canadian Warranty 4years\100,000km.
If I decide to keep the car for a long-time I'll eventually cave and buy the engine not sure yet though.

Update from the OP

I must say that I am amazed at how this thread just took off. Can I safely say that I have the biggest thread on the forum?

Enough back slapping, I'll give an update on my situation. I had my THIRD motor installed last month. Infiniti of Chantilly banned me after my second motor because of "modifications". Mind you I only have suspension mods.

When I put Infiniti corporate on notice that my second engine burned more than the first, they denied me.

Luckily, the guys of Infiniti of Tysons went above and beyond my expectations. They were shocked at the level of oil consumption and replaced the second motor. That is the best dealership I have ever come across.

TIP: If you are getting resistance from your dealer just go to another one. And if you are going to buy a new Infiniti, go to Infiniti of Tysons.

Lets just hope this third motor does not burn oil...

questions about oil consumption issue

(sorry for the long post -- I would REALLY appreciate any help)

I have an 03 6MT with 90K miles that I bought from a private owner last year. I have taken it to infiniti dealers since I bought it. A month ago, at 3K post oil change, it started making all the noises everyone else is talking about--turns out it had "a coffee cup" of oil left and my light didn't even come on. no leak. after 1K miles, it has twice been about half way b/t L and H. the mechanic mentioned I may need a new engine but didn't mention that this is a common issue as this forum seems to suggest. I probably don't know as much technically as many on this forum. So, here are my questions:

Is getting a new engine inevitable?

I saw someone say there is a 5yr/70K warranty on engine--sorry to be so ignorant about these things but is it "whichever comes first?" so I would be out of luck at 90K?

Has anyone had any luck getting Infiniti to pay for this repair (mechanic said it would be about $10K)? hired lawyers? I simply do not have the money.

Anyone have infiniti dealer recommendations in Chicago or surrounding?

What is the "tsb" I saw mentioned in posts?

What should I be doing to keep it from doing other permenent damage in the meantime?

Thanks so much for your time!

You're SOL. TSB is for 05 to 07 MT cars, and they fight engine replacement on those kicking and screaming. An 03 with 90K they will never cover.

Not trying to be a jerk but it is what it is.

^ Yeah weird how some dealers kick/scream/play games while some don't.

They'll do non revup replacements too, but those need to be 1qt/1000mi OC or worse and of course still under warranty. TSB as mentioned doesn't pertain to your VQ.

Yes on whichever comes first years or miles with warranty expiration.

Best for no further damage is to check your oil often, find it's OC/miles and keep adding oil when no more than a quart low.

Save your $$ up and go get a quality rebuild.

I just test drove a G37 Sat. The brochure they gave me states that the general warranty is 4/60. The powertrain (motor and tranny) is 5/70. I realize your in Canada, but make sure there is no confusion there before you write off the warranty option.

I will definitely be looking into that ASAP. Thanks.
