Wow, it's been a while since I checked in on this thread. I guess my engine part # does not match that of the V2. I'm wondering if they made a mistake in my case though. The thing is, when my engine was replaced, I knew nothing of a hand built engine from Japan or a V2. I thought I was just getting another RevUp. It was my service guy and the QC guy that advised me that I was getting a hand built engine from Japan that had revised pistons and piston rings. So I honestly don't know anymore if I have a hand built engine from Japan or what. All I know is that my engine has been working just fine and does not seem to be consuming any more oil. Believe me, I keep a very close eye on my oil pressure gauge.

Like Hex said ...10102-AC7M9 is the V2.
10102-AC7M1 is the V1.
The V3 is still a rumor, but if anyone gets their VQ replaced and it's different than those two known numbers for rev-up G35's, let us know.

What up Hex...
Yeah, a little confusion with that awhile back, but no worries. As long as you have no more OC issues, it's all good.

ZeeForce on Z's OC thread is still compiling and updating that VQ replacement health spreadsheet when peeps give him an update.

-everyone on here-
G's with replacements are welcome there as well to join in on that spreadsheet. Please contribute to ZeeForces's efforts.

The rev-up motor for the Infiniti will likely be out in february. I have a friend that works for Corporate Nissan/Infiniti as a DTS (district technical specialist) and he tells me that nissan is well aware of the problem. Thats why they are disigning a new engine with better, thicker rings. The part numbers that you are coming up are for the redesigned Z motor that came out in november!!

^^^I'll give Infiniti until end of February to release their TSB, otherwise I'm going BBB and FTC route with the 350Z TSB in hand.

The engine numbers I've mentioned are for the G not the Z.
Z engine numbers are: 10102-AC7MA - first version like our first version 10102-AC7M1 for G's.
And 10102-AC7MZ which is the current hand built one from Japan for Z's like our current 10102-AC7M9 for the G that both became available in June/July of this year, not November. That is unless you know of a third version replacement that was released in November for the Z's.

Please post that third version Z number. It has been a rumor over on the Z forum about a V3 replacement but never confirmed with recent replacements still reflecting the V2 10102-AC7MZ still being used for Z's.
Thanks.

To my knowledge, the only occurrence in November was Nissan's TSB for Z's on OC issues.

No offense, but the 'thicker ring' statement is what was said with the first version replacement for our G's and Z's; AKA...revised rings...aka as the V1, which proved for the most part as a failure in resolving the OC issue.

I will pull up the TSB tomorrow at work and see what the part# is on the engine that i thought just came out a couple of weeks ago. I work for a Nissan dealer so i will let you know. I am also gonna call my buddy and ask him about this handbuilt motor from Japan cause i was not even aware of this.

Maybe our 'revised' V2 hand-built motors are prototypes for this new 'v3' engine that will be mass produced and installed in accordance with the recall? One can only hope. Otherwise, I'm waiting this out with my new 'v2' hand built engine as long as possible until they finally design an engine that they think fixes the problem. Good thing they extended my warranty so I can get the next engine!

Nissan TSB number is NTB07-088 and was released November 27, 2007.
The replacement engine for that TSB is the 10102-AC7MZ and has been in use since June/July only if you qualified with their old replacement standard of 1qt/1000mi or worse prior to Nissan's Nov 07 TSB.

Lots of ppl have said they have had to wait after qualifying in their replacement for the next VQ shipment from Japan.

The first replacement version was a factory block with revised rings and pistons from Nissan's Tennessee plant in North America.

Here's the latest TSB I know of for the Z's:

This could be true. It will be interesting to see what Infiniti comes up with in Feb 08.
Good call on getting extended warranty on your V2 if issues arise later on down the road.

Well I recently purchased a 2005 G35 with 27500 miles on it 3 months ago and have only put about 1000 miles on it since i've had it. I was taking a moderate road trip of about 85 miles today so I checked the oil level and lo and behold, it was below the L level. All I could think about is all the posts I've read about people's horror stories about their engine oil consumption.

I had no choice but to put a couple quarts in the car so I could drive it, but now I'm wondering what should I do?

I am definetly going to keep tabs on the mileage I put on and the amount of oil that I have.

My question is should I pay the dealership to do an oil change so that they have a record of doing it, and then monitor the oil level after 1,000 miles and see what happens? I would rather do the work myself, but if I take it to the dealership the oil change would be more accounted for since I would have records of them doing it.

Also how do I determine what type of engine and motor I have. You guys are talking about Rev up and V2 classifications, and i'd like to identify which one I have

My suggestion would be:
-Yes have the Dealer do an oil change.
-Explain the consumption you just experienced in the first 1000mi since you bought it.
-Request an oil consumption test to be started. Don't accept a 'no' answer on testing or 'this is normal for these' or 'it's your driving habits' explanation.
It is not normal and driving habits aren't the cause.
-Ask if there are any history records of your G in Infiniti's system.
Example: oil changes, prior oil consumption tests, maybe even possibility a prior VQ replacement that obviously has failed.
-Call Infiniti Consumer Affairs and file complaint.
-File defect complaint on-line with the NHTSA.

With the visual consumption you experienced, there should be no question in meeting Infiniti's current 1qt/1000mi or worse standard for warranty replacement.

V1 and V2 are slang terms created to determine which replacement VQ was used. Version 1 and version 2 replacements respectively.
They were created by the forums, not the dealer or manufacture.
V1 = factory block with revised rings and pistons = 10102-AC7M1 = mostly a failure in OC issue.
V2 = hand built VQ from Japan = 10102-AC7M9 = high success rate in comparison to V1 so far.
Those engine replacement numbers refer to G35 rev-up VQ's only.

Rev-up refers to the type of VQ that is found only in the 05-06 G's with 6mt and only 07 6mt coupes.

G/L and sorry to hear you got one of these oil burners.

I spoke w/ NNA and they informed me eventhough I have the Nissan TSB, they still wont fix it, because my car is an auto and they have only experienced these issues w/ 6MT's only, so I am basically SOL

Isnt it the same engine, only difference is one is higher revving?

thats why I leased it

After reading all this thats why we leased it. I always get the oil changed at infiniti and I plan on never checking the oil. If it eats oil between the oil changes and blows a motor, I'll walk away. Hopefully my 2007 G35 sedan does not eat oil, but I have never opened the hood. 12,300 miles now and still needs a ECU reflash, damn gas pedal is touchy. It acts like it wants to be driven hard. other than that a great car.

Sounds as though you have a Z, yes? They should still replace it under their old warranty replacement standard of 1qt/1000mi or worse, regardless if rev-up or non rev-up.
If your above the pre rev-up TSB consumption standard, then yeah guess you are SOL like us Infiniti folks STILL are.
