Fog Lights? When do you use them?

Ok. So I drive an '05 g35 coupe auto.

I read on other threads that driving with the fog lights on all the time can cause cracking inside the headlights. Prior to reading that thread, I have been driving easily for over a year now with my fog lights on all the time and have not noticed any cracking yet. *thank god

But now I am really scared so I will not be driving with my fog lights on anymore, and will only be using them I guess in the fog.

My question is, when do you guys use your fog lights? Do you drive with them on all the time? Do you use them only in the fog (which is almost never where I live). When do you use them, and for how long?

How many of you guys noticed cracking inside your headlights?

good question. Come to think of it, I never have mine on at all. So that would put me in the hardly ever use category. I haven't noticed any cracking.

i don't hardly use mine as well. only few times has been in severe weather when i need a little more light on the ground in front of me, or for others to see me more easily. but in all honestly they don't really do all that much with the hid's already in place.

I use my fogs all the time........I have an 04, and had both headlights replaced last winter. The dealer tried to tell me it was the aftermarket fog/high bulbs and extreme white bulbs in the clearance markers that generated too much heat and caused the crack.

I know other members with stock setups that had the same/similar problems, so I figured it to be BS

They would not re-install my aftermarket bulbs. They put in the OEM bulbs again. I then put in new Piaa's and MTEC's later on in the year.

So far, I have no problems.....but I did notice a significant rise in temperature on the face of my headlights....so who knows.............

I believe they are covered under warranty for either 45 or 48,000 miles.

4 years/60k miles is the limited warranty

I have about 25k miles on my car, and have owned my car for over a year and a half and have had my foglights for at least 95% or more of that time.

When should I start worrying about cracking?
When did you guys start noticing cracking? I'm still going to turn them off for now, just to be safe.

It shouldn't crack with the stock bulbs.

If you use the "high wattage"-style aftermarket bulbs, they can not only cause hairline cracks in the covers, but also melt the reflector housing and the wiring harnesses.
