update on reception:

I improved the reception by using the antenna from the OEM remote. I had to peel it off and scrape off the top layer to expose the metal in order to solder it on to the board. I can go about 30 feet or so. Still not as good as OEM but it's good for how I use it on daily basis.

remember putting the remote under your chin while you press the button greatly increases reception

I found this mod, which looks like our remote so it should help extend the range. ill try in a few days, but its almost the same as accordfreaks method.

Anyone that"s done this mod willing to just do my circuit board for me? I attempted to do it myself, I dremmeled the mazda case and had the top of my key cut, but I tried soldering and totally screwed the board up. I'm willing to pay or maybe trade for some Philips 5000k 85122+ bulbs if anyone needs some. I tried contacting lilsnoozer but he hasn't been replying to anyone about this mod.

The OP had said he would do these for $100 ($50 for the mazda key and $50 for his time)... but I asked about a month ago and he said he had a lot going on and would be willing to do it for $150.

Not sure about doing "just" the circuit board though... If I could get the circuit board done, I could do the rest. I think it's the circuit board that takes the most time.

Thanks, I'll try to pm him. Is his user name just OP? Your right about the circuit board being the hardest part. I worked on it for 3 hours and couldn't get it to work.

Yeah I tried lilsnoozer a few times but no reply. I might end up giving it (the board) another try. Accordfreak, where did you get the wire you used, and what gauge is it? Also does it matter what type of solder is used?

30 gauge wire from fry's electronics. don't use cheap radio shack solder. they have acid which eats up the stuff you solder on the board.

haha i almost burned myself too.. ...

as for the chip, you have to dig out the mazda chip (at the head of the key) and put the infiniti chip in its place.

What about the key? After getting an infinity key cut to fit my ignition and cutting it down to fit the new fob will it start the car? I thought we had some special chip built inside the key for starting the car? Cutting the key to fit inside the mazda fob will damage that chip, no?

I'm having trouble trying to program the new remote key to function with the car. Any suggestions, I have tried the 6 times insert program rule, but it doesn't seem to pick up the mazda key mod.
