You implied that the accident most likely wouldn't have happened if he didn't turn VDC off. Why should you never turn it off?

*These are just opinions, but...
My personal "formulas" are:

rain or cold = VDC on
snow = winter tires + VDC on (or don't drive it if you have summer tires)
dry + warm = VDC off (just don't gun it in the middle of a turn)

I've only owned my G for a few months, but I've learned a lot because I've driven it from December to nearly May. It's amazing how much more my tires would slip in the cold, even when it was dry outside (must be related to traction on a cold surface). Driving with VDC off is just like driving any old school RWD car, my first was a 93 mustang, and that thing was a sled. It's all about turns, there's a fine line between control and no control when you're hitting the gas in a turn - you have to learn where that line is, and how it changes due to environmental conditions.

I just dont understand why people turn it off on public streets? The street is not a race track, and if you think it is you have no idea what racetracks are like (not intended to original poster, just people in general)
Only time I turn of VDC is when I'm trying to get moving in slushy conditions. Once I'm moving, it goes back on.

Sorry to hear about the crash but it sounds like he was going too fast for the conditions. Even with winter tires 45mph is pushing it in snow at night in city driving conditions.

Whats the point of buying a ~300hp RWD vehicle if you are never going to shut VDC off?

people think vdc is going to save u no matter what, The car can be dangerous with vdc on OR off. VDC is a feature that makes people think it is safe to do stupid things but that is not the case. 99% of the time my vdc is off and the car feels way better that way. VDC on the car is going to understeer and make u crash if u don't know the limit. VDC off the car is going to oversteer and make u crash again if u don't know the limit. It can be helpfull in rain but agaiin it all depends on your right foot.

The engine is designed to telescope under the car, in front of the 2nd firewall that is designed to protect the brake controls and battery.

The 2nd firewall will keep the battery from being damaged in the case of a head on impact.

KP, thanks for that info, never knew that the battery and brake lines were hidden for our safety. That's some cool info.

It is actually really cool, I was pretty amazed at the car when I got in to my little accident. All the pedals are pulled to the floor and the car stopped itself, even with VDC off (the car was Tboned by a Caddy).

Two airbags deployed, and I was fortunate enough to hit them (I was sitting in the passenger seat, someone else was driving). Only the airbags deployed that needed to deploy to protect us. It was kinda cool, even though it really sucked.

More cool safety info, if someone hasn't already done it, someone should make a thread about the safety features of our car and sticky it.
