Excessive Rear View Mirror Vibration.

My G is equipped with an auto-dimmer, Homelink rear view mirror. It tends to have excessive vibration on uneven roads, where the view using the mirror is blurred. It is much worst than my other cars. The mirror mount feels adequately rigid. On the same roads, the side view mirror remains clear and stable, so it is not the car's chassis. If I place my hands on the side of the mirror to stabilize it is fine.

Has other G owner have shaky rear view mirrors? Any fixes?

TIA

I took my mirror apart and put a layer of masking tape (real thin) between the front panel and the mirror itself. The actual vibration is caused by the mirror tapping the front panel of the plastic housing. It fixed the problem completely and the mirror is now noise free. The front panel is a b!tch to take off and may cause marring if you use a screwdriver. There is a thread with someone else taking the mirror aprat.

I have that problem but it is from the W6 and 1000/1. My homelink mirror is fine otherwise.

Thanks everyone for their help and shooter for the mod.

My mirror is siliconed and ready to install in the morning.
The toughest part is separating the housing. Took it slow with a small stiff putty knife to avoid buggering up the plastic. The front trim snaps INTO the back, so carefully 'peel' the back housing out and the front trim will pop out. Start at top and slowly work around.

I took mine to the dealership and complained about vibration noises in the interior. They replaced the shifter assembly (AT) and the rear view mirror.

Have you taken it to your dealer? - Don't know if anybody has suggested it. The only time my rear view mirror shakes is when I have my music way up.

I had my dealer replaced the rear-view mirror soon after I got my car. Unfortunately, the replacement mirror didn't fare much better.

Here is what I did: using heavyweight plastic sheets (like ones for covering windows in winters, for ex.), I cutted a ~1/8" strip and inserted into the front-bottom of the mirror between the glass and bezel. This has worked well. At least now the mirror do not vibrate went simply driving on coarse road surface. There is a little when going over expansion joints and such. Simple and easy solution and it works well enough for me. My $0.02.

It's inherent on our cars... you'll get use to it.
