I still use the handbrake on steep hills sometimes for assurance...

try the no gas method in an empty parking lot. Let out your clutch slowly without giving it gas and you can feel it engage slowly. slowly let go bit by bit and you can get the car rolling. Do it for pratice and I'm sure you'll master it soon enough.

the best adivce for a nooob is to never, not matter what let go of the clutch on 1st gear. release the clutch slowly and give it gas. if you feel the car about to stall quickly push the clutch back in and start all over...

give it gas first and then release the clutch.. slowly step on the gas and slowly release the clutch.

dont panic if someone is behind you. just take it slow. better that then stalling.

I'm just really worried about the car since I stalled so many times on the first day, I'd say about 50.
The effect is that people around you will laugh and the damage will be to your pride.

Don't worry about it too much...these cars are quite resilient.

Thats exactly how I learned to drive a stick. Rented a Sentra beater for a day and stalled the $#!% out of it !

youre right, but for a beginner thats going to take alot of practice. especially if there are cars behind him. IMO i would advise using the handbrake for assistance in thos situations.

Get a friend to drive you out to a rural area and practice there. Best place is a dirt road with tons of visibility and no traffic. You'll be going slow enough that you won't need to worry about gravel chips. Just practice smooth up shifts and don't be afraid to down shift. Also get used to going around corners in the right gear. When I was learning and driving solo I always ended up wanting to coast around corners for some reason. Wait a year or so before you start trying to burn donuts and stuff like that. Good luck.
