Why must my car guzzle like a V8 :(

oh, I find it guzzles more than a V8. I came from a 540i 6speed and am used to getting 20-22mpg mixed and upwards of over 29mpg on the interstate. Worse yet, my 328Ci gets at least 32mpg with a shorter 3.46 rear differential instead of the stock 2.93 gears on my trip back to my parents where as my G can only manage 25mpg lol. The price to pay for high styling.

"Why must my car guzzle like a v8?"
Answer: Because it makes power like a v8.
It takes fuel to make power. It doesn't matter if you have a 4cyl, a 6 or 8, if you have a lot of power, it takes a lot of fuel.
Smaller engines make up for a lack of torque by reving higher and having higher gearing.
My Trans Am gets better highway fuel economy than my G because it's cruising under 2k on the hwy while the G is at 3k. Heck, it gets better fuel economy than the old 200hp Civic Si. Gearing kills your fuel economy on the highway.
But, around town, I get 2-3mpg better in the G than the Trans Am.
